Hi Snowy

I'm a great believer in learning good habits first and in my view the only way is through professonal tuition.
I take an hour lesson every week and vary it, sometimes electric, sometimes acoustic and others pure classical.
Not being in a band I also find it a great way to learn interaction and how you have to tie down timing.
I learnt to read music way back in school and somehow remembered it all, suppose its only the alphabet.

Hi jaiyenyen,

You and I are on the same wavelength

I self taught myself piano and did a few lessons when i was about 12-13... I hated them. Especially seeing as there was a few of us doing lessons at once so i had to do what the majority where doing even though i was better.
I never really had the passion on piano or keyboard really but when i came to get my first guitar they helped me alot when it came to chords and reading music etc.
I tried getting guitar lessons last month after self teaching myself for about 6 months and doing really well (imo) but they denied me free lessons because i apparently threw the piano ones back in there face (this is in school btw)

started taking guitar lessons at or about the age of 12 for a couple 2 or 3 yr. got hooked up with a band about the same time, but through the passing years i really never stoped learning or taking lessions from people who knew more then i did, now i find that i am the teacher, i have a pre teen young man whom i'm teaching how to read notes & scales & also how to have fun with the guitar, the young man also takes piano lessons, i'm 58 yr. old now and by teaching this young man i in turn am also learning
