Today marks the last day that the Yankee Stadium will be in use. After the Yankees game today, it will be closed then torn down. There is so much history in that place and not just in baseball. The Beatles played there for the first time in America. Among countless other bands. Ken Norton and Muhammad Ali fought a championship game there.

The very first no hitter world series game was played there.

So long, old friend. You will be missed.

I do wonder why they don't preserve it into a museum and not just tear it down? That'd be a lot less wasteful...

Money! Can you imagine how much that property in the Bronx is worth? I was so much of a Yankee fan that in Little League (about 1960) I got in a fight with another kid over number 7>

I'm pretty sure the Beatles played Shea Stadium. That doesn't take away from Yankee stadiums history though.

The Beatles first American concert was in Washington DC. Shea stadium was August 15, 1965 this was the first major stadium concert in the history of rock and roll with 55,000 people in the audience. (source wiki)

What makes me angry is that I was never able to even see it in person. It makes me sad that it will be gone, even though I am no Yankees fan. Goodbye to a legend.

I grew up across the river from Yankee Stadium in Washington Heights (Manhattan) and have been a lifelong Yankees fan...I've seen a bunch of games, and a couple of years ago on a visit back to NYC, some friends and my son and his friends did the Stadium tour...I'm sorry to see it go also. It's part of my childhood.

I have been there 4 times the last couple years and the place was a horrible compared to the other stadiums I have been to. Fans will be glad when they start seeing the games in the new one. They went on about Memorial Stadium when they closed it now people could care less since they opened Camden Yards . Look most new Stadiums ard being built just like ithe Yards now days. Modern but old looking and up close to the action and good site lines frome every seat. I have been to the Phillies new place once and Wow nice and the Pirates PNC park is not bad either. Now thats what they got to look foward to for the Yanks and that means the worst one I have been to now will have been Fenway  I no that will upset some but I have been to one game a year there for the last 5 years and it is not a good park even with all there updates. The dimensions are so small with the right and left field lines 20 feet or smaller then most stadiums it makes it a different game. One of these days they will have to modernize and people will talk of how sad it is until they get into a nice new place and out of that 100 year old dinosaur.

I've had the pleasure of seeing a couple of great games there. It's one of the places that I'll remember forever.

The house that Ruth built is being replaced by the house that Steinbrenner built. Here's hoping that they at least don't end up naming it "Olive Garden Field" or something like that... :(

Amen to that! They should at least call it New Yankee Stadium!

Oulde Comiskey Park in Chicago had history but was well...oulde. US Cellular Field in Chicago is ultra-modern, but 'have still enjoyed many Sox games there.

Very true and at least it is Yankee Stadium and not Wrigley that we're talking about. There would be riots in the streets if they tore that one down.
