Get a G-DEC Jr ($179) and use it to learn how to play first. Then play loud. In the meantime, keep it strictly on the QT.

The worst thing for a beginner is to play to the beat in their head. Always play to a metronome or jam tracks. Learning how to play to time is the number one discipline in music. All your future bandmates are thanking me in advance for this tip.

Every minute you spend practicing now will pay off a thousandfold years from now. Don't just wank around posing. Push yourself everyday to learn something new. The net is full of free tracks and guitar lessons. Or sign up for some cheap Truefire lessons.

To quote John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray and Jimi Hendrix who are speaking directly to you: "Practice, practice, practice...then go practice some more."

Jimi used to keep playing scales in the bathroom. He'd fall asleep in bed working out new chords.

The only proven God-given talent that all great players share is a talent for practicing religiously. And the G-DEC Jr is a perfectly good altar upon which to practice your devotion.

The Roland Cube amps are great. My 15w cost just $99! It has great effects in it and I haven't gotten the volume about 4 or 5 yet, though I'm not gigging. However, the 20w is even better because of the footswitch option. Go for it!

I have a Vox DA 15. The cost was $140 and it has a lot of different affects. Check it out.

I still say the Peavey Classic 20 is the best lil 15 W, Class A amp I've played thru. They aren't too easy to find, people tend to keep em. But you can find em from time to time at the $250 range. Just a cool little tweed amp that sounds fantastic.

I would try the Fender Frontman amp or see if you can find a Fender Vibro Champ somewhere on ebay for a good price.

For that cash I would pick up a line 6 spider III 15. It has a bunch of effects already built in and will allow you to play a bunch of different styles. A good practice amp that has some punch

You can get a Crate Palomino V8 for $200 on Musician's Friend. 5W Class A tube amp that's more than loud enough for a practice amp. The controls are as basic as you can get, but nice tone and will get as dirty as you want for blues and rock music.
