There are some really good musicians playing on the late night shows these days. I remember Doc Severinson and the orchestra. :?

Between Letterman's Late Night, Leno's and Conan's shows you have a group that has combined some players to make up THE FAB FAUX :

The Fab Faux (Jimmy Vivino, Will Lee, Rich Pagano, Jack Petruzzelli and Frank Agnello) performing the Beatles' "All You Need is Love" on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," 9/12/08. With the Creme Tangerine Strings (Sibel Finn, Amy Kimball) and the Hogshead Horns (Tom Timko, Jerry Vivino, Tom "Bones" Malone, John Chudoba).

You're definately right. Some of the stuff they play is a little cheesy coming in and out of commercials, but what can you do.

I don't have a scientific reason, but I like the Max Weinberg 7 (Conan) the best.

I really dig Will Lee (bass), Sid McGinnis (guitar), Anton Fig (drums) and former Blues Brother, Tom "Bones" Malone from the CBS Orchestra.

Back in the early-to-mid 80's, when they were called "The World's Most Dangerous Band" they had Steve Jordan (drums) and Hiram Bullock (guitar) along with Paul Shaffer and backed up Clapton, Jagger, Bowie, Buddy Guy and others along with the Atlantic Records mega-show.

My fav is Paul's band. Then Max's. Then Kevin's.

Paul is so talented it's ridiculous. I remember when he still had hair and was SNL's musical director. He even became a regular in skits back then. It's no wonder his band is the house band for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. He's been the musical director and producer for the Hall of Fame from day one. And, how cool could it have been to be the musical director for the Blues Brothers? The man worked with Belushi! Can you imagine the stories he has to tell?

I've caught the Fab Faux twice on late night tv. Once on Letterman and the other night doing "All You Need Is Love" on Conan. They really are very good.

"All You Need Is Love" is the link from my first post. They really sound amazing, IMO.

Did you hear the bad news from almost 2 months ago?
That Hiram Bullock died?

RIP Hiram

If I'm not mistaken, some of the guys on the early SNL originally played with Tom Scott and the LA Express.

It wouldn't surprise me. Most of these guys are session/studio cats and have mucho connections in the biz.
