I wouldn't be so sure of that. If you know what I mean.

My wife is ok, she doesn't understand guitars but she doesn't hate them but she loves shopping, the other week she wanted a car, so i went out and paid 2 grand for a ford focus, she was well chuffed but when i said i wanted a new bass she said "do you really need one, you've got 3 already" now dont get me wrong, im not loaded, i had some money left to me by my late mother (R.I.P. MUM ) but i really fancied treating myself to a new bass so i bought myself a new bass and i'm buying myself another 2 basses in the next couple of weeks, needless to say the wife is far from pleased.
I really cant figure women out, its ok to spend a fortune on a car but 3 basses wont cost as much and they still moan.

Ah my missus is a good un, i suppose.
I dont take her to guitar shops, its fruitless, her boredom stops her being objective. I just show her a picture and ask her what she thinks. She keeps me in check with gear possesion too, but she's fair about it her usual line being, 'where are you going to keep it'. The main problem being space. Not that i have stacks of stuff, we live in a 3 bed victorian terraced house. 2x 100watt marshall valve amps (1 combo 1 head), a 5watt vibrochamp xd, a charvel, 2 strats, a esp ltd, a jackson and a Vintage lemon drop, 3 kids and assorted pets. It gets cramped at times. All she asks is that i'm tidy with my stuff and that i allow her space for her things, buy her diamonds and save for stuff rather than get credit. She even puts up with my forrays into volume even a drunken 200watt rendition of Iron Man one new years eve.

A good girl altogether, wouldnt change her for the world.
I just dont expect her to be interested in guitars appart from yay or nay'ing colour options which she is very good at. :D

that's cool, but it's not the case for every couple!

I don't have a girlfriend, but the girl I'm into plays guitar and listens to the same music so that's a plus

This is an interesting thread. I go back-and-forth with my wife.

You see, she bought me my first guitar (my Squier Strat). I don't think she fully realized what she was getting herself into... I used to be a drummer many years ago - always wanted to learn the guitar, so she fueled this spark and flamed music back into my life. Shorty after falling in love with playing my Squier I started spending a lot of time at my local music shop and fell in love with the American Deluxe I now own. I showed it to her one day, and she fell in love with it too... she said it was the prettiest guitar ever and once I learned how to play better I could get it. Sounded reasonable to me - I mean, my Squier is a great playing instument, honestly. However, I lived in fear of that thing being sold as it hung on the wall at the store for 5 months.

Finally, I had earned some extra money from a nice freelance gig I had and the timing just worked out - her and I went to the guitar shop one evening and just bought it! I was geeked! So excited and sort of shocked at just dropping so much money for a guitar. She was happy for me, and also a bit scared. Ha! It was a good chunk of change.

She doesn't necessarity like going into the music store with me, but she is very supportive and understanding. And like BB, she is also currently my biggest fan because I am certainly still not a great player.

Matter of fact, I have become pretty good friends with a few of the guys at my local shop, and I took my wife and two sons in last night. They hung out and played around on the Mini Squiers (they are 4 and 6) while I BS'ed about amps with the guys. She knows that a Blues Deluxe or Blues Jr. is next on my list... and she's a good sport about it. She's an amazing woman!

Here she is with my American Deluxe and the Lounge t-shirt - yes, she posed for the photo contest. :D

Each time I buy a new guitar or get a new tattoo it cost me no less then 200 dollar kick back that I have to give the wife. I get that well you got that what can I have. One guitar cost me $500. kick back to her last year. Well been Married over 25 years you get used to it. Maybe I need a Girlfriend. :?: Well that would most likley cost me double what am I thinking

I'm glad I'm not the only one who pays a kick back. I can buy whatever I want for the most part as long as I pay the vig. And a girlfriend is going to be double.

Well it depends of course if she's a musician.

However I go there with my band members (one is a girl BTW, although not my GF) and we all just stay there and try everything out for hours...then leave, lol. I never spend more then a few bucks there for strings or small parts. And the axes there are never set up and have horrible action. If I worked there I would set the actions so the guitars and basses would be easier to play...hence easier to sell.

BUT...I will say this. In South Florida the service at GC was awful..and the employees were not well informed on the gear they sold. Los Angeles is different. As soon as you walk in the door they run up and introduce themselves and are very helpful. They also seem to know their stuff (probably all musicians anyhow..it is LA).

But as far as this post..agree..I would generally not bring a non musician girl with me if I was going to try out axes. But I have been dragged to the mall and marshalls and target etc by my GF and it's not fun at all, I prefer to wait in the car so I can smoke and listen to tunes. Seems the better option then watching her try on shoes or asking me if the dress makes her look fat etc.

Today at band practice the other guitarists girlfriend stopped by, and she said something about how my guitar sounded better than his...I got a kick out of that because the other guitarist has absolutely no mids in his EQ, just bass and treble, and in a full band setting it just ends up sounding kind of farty and his solos never cut through. For the rest of band practice he seemed to be worried about how his guitar sounded, so I don't know about bringing a girlfriend to a guitar store, but I suggest don't bring your girlfriend to band practice  Unless she is bringing some of her single friends for the available guitarist and drummer to hit on
