Flippin channels & came across The who's 'Rock opera' Tommy on cable in HD.

The story follows a mute, deaf and blind,
boy who becomes a pinball wizard.

I think I was in kindergarten when this movie was released in 1975.
Wow, I haven't seen this since... so long ago I can't remember.
Not since I was very young... It is so different seeing it now. 8)

I saw it in 75. Wild movie. I liked it more then then I do now. I still love the idea of Ann Margaret rolling around in baked beans. Damn she was hot.

I saw the stage play when it came out in '71. The music was played by the band Cannonball Express.

Never did go see the Russel movie. My parents got me the LP soundtrack for Christmas and I played it once. Still have it.

Love The Who album. Was what started me off as a major Who fan when that came out!! That and Live at Leeds!!

I had a VHS tape of it from many years ago that I put on a DVD. I've liked their sound ever since I first heard "Pictures of Lilly."

In Clapton's autbiography, he mentions some of the wild times that he had with the band, especially Pete & Moonie!

I saw the stage musical in the late 90s. Brilliant.

I was not too crazy about the movie, but the epic music was revolutionary.

I'm one of the biggest Who fans out there. But that film was always several steps too far for me. Calm down, Ken!

Incidentally, my mother was a film editor in the late '50s - early '60s and did a lot of work with Ken Russell at the BBC, including his film Elgar which launched his cinematic career. Happily, she was in no way responsible for Tommy...

Cheers - C

I REALLY liked Ann-Margret in the 'Bye Bye Birdie' film from 1963 (no, I didn't see it in 1963)! Which reminds me, I wonder what happened to Conrad Birdie's custom Black and Gold Fender from that movie--I think it was a Jazzmaster, you can check it out from the film! That guitar's probably worth a few bucks.

I too thought the movie was good back in the 70s. I had forgotten all of it I guess. A year or so ago I was at a friends house who had cable. Flipped it on and saw the scene where Tommy goes into the drug mummy chamber watched it for another half hour and thought what the #$%@ is this movie and turned it off.

I remember a scene I saw on cable where Elton John is playing pinball in giant boots...that movie right? If so I think everyone involved with that movie was on acid...or worse...LOL. I couldn't watch it through and the music was an abomination (my opinion of course, others may vary).

A rock "opera" lol. Maybe one day someone will make a heavy metal "ballet". None for me please, pass.

But agreed the chick in the movie is quite hot.

Truth be told, that was the state of mind my friends and I were in when we saw it. It wasn't intended for the sober mind.
