ALright, this week is the choosing of the rocker stratocaster giveaway. Some will get it, some won't. I shall get it!! :) Who else signed up to get this strat? That fender logo does look nice to my eyes :) They actually already picked the people last tuesday, eastern u.s. time. They're gonna send e-mails to people on the nineteenth (friday) telling you if you won it!!!!! Can't wait!

On a side note, i am joining jazz band and all i have to do is get some music and read/play from it, play 3 major scales from memory ( i know them: ionian, lydian, mixolydian). I also gotta sight read ( i hope it's tabs; not that i can't read notes, i am just not good at it:) )

So yes, if i can do those three, i am in jazz band next week, and the strat giveaway email is coming on friday!

Makes the beginning of school all the better.

Yeah I signed up.

Hope I get it, man, I really do!

And dude, I hope it's notes, 'cus you need to get better at them (from what you said). And it probably will be, unless you have an all too simpathetic teacher. And notes can be more discriptive.

I couldn't believe that I won the VGStrat - I haven't won anything of value since I was in high school, way back in 1962. I didn't expect to win at all - but I did. As the lottery folks say - "You gotta be in it to win it"

Good luck to everyone who entered.

Gil, a lucky winner  8)

I signed up for it. I can never pass up the chance to win something, especially when the item up for grabs is a guitar!

I signed up as well. I figure with my entry it just adds another number to the odds. My luck is so bad that I entered a drawing with 10 prizes and 11 entrants and guess who didn't win. (That's why I don't gamble)

Through a friend's dad, I started entering contests online about a year ago. Every once in awhile I would win a gift certificate or once I won an electric shaver, But a little over a month ago I got a call telling me I had one the Grand Prize in "The Rocker" contest through 20th Century Fox. My prize, full admission to the recent Fender University in August. Trip, university, hotel, everything paid for by Fox. Also including a brand new Cherry Cola American Standard Stratocaster. It was the most incredible time of my life.
I'm not posting to brag, just to tell everyone to keep trying cause you never know when that phone call will come.
Peace and love.
PS. I'm also entered to win The Rocker Strat.

I sign up every time that Fender is giving away a guitar. I really wanted that Joe Strummer Tele. Since I didn't win that, I'm hoping Fender will make it up to me by giving me the Rocker. :P

It's all true. There were 2 winners at the university, myself and another gentlman named George who won it through Rolling Stone magazine. If you're interested, on the article Fender has about the university on its' home page, the first picture to pop up is the group shot at the factory. I'm the tall geek in the back, brown shirt, safety glasses. George is the older gent up front, short hair, grayish beard. We both are absolute guitar beginners. I know 3 chords and he knew 4. Since the class, I've learned 3 more chords. Don't know 'bout George.
Peace and love.

That's incredible. Congratulations! I wanted to go, but as a relative novice myself, I was afraid I'd be embarrassed by my lack of chops. Did you feel awkward at all, or were people pretty cool? Maybe I'll go next year after all!

Thanks for the good words.
At first I thought that I was going to feel incredibly out of place, but the staff of Fender, the other students and even guys like Greg Koch, Dweezil Zappa, John 5 all had very encouraging words that have greatly inspired me to practice hard. There were 20 students and more than half were beginners to aspiring musicians. Even though I won this contest, everyone who ponied up the money said it was worth every penny, and if you get on the forum thread "Fender University Alumni - Class of 2008" you'll read all the incredible positive comments. I couldn't recommend it more!
