Hey Guys!

I am in DC for business and I decided to see the sights and wear my Fender Lounge shirt. I just got here today and the first stop I made was to Arlington National Cemetery. It didn't feel right me posing in my Fender shirt and trying to get attention. It would cheapen the whole experience. Since it is indeed hallowed ground. We need to honor our brave dead for the sacrifices they made on our behalf. So I thought I would share some of this with you guys. It was so quiet even though there were people everywhere. It was remarkable.

Gardens of Stone

Tomb of the Unknowns

Changing of the Guard. The Old Guard. The oldest regiment in the US Army.

Image

The Eternal Flame where President Kennedy and his wife are buried.

Image

My Uncle. Section 60, grave 7228.

A truly humbling experience.

Thanx for sharing, and you're correct, the somber and respectful nature of that location, the Forum contest photos would be inappropriate.

Just humbling to think that everyone of those white stones was someone's son, daughter, spouse, parent.

Amen to that. It almost brought me to tears! It can be overwhelming.

Thank you for being classy and for reminding us of those who died to make us free to wear Fender Lounge tee shirts.

And never forget those soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guard folks.

Personally, 'thank them and remember them and those who mourn for them, every day in prayers.

Father went ashore at Utah Beach in Normandy in '44 but chose not to be buried there, when he utimately moved on to the next realm.

Wow. That is amazing. What prompted him for his decision? He was definitely worthy!

I don't know JSJH or his family, but a lot of Marines I know, myself included, would rather be buried at home, with family, around those we fought to protect. While it is a great honor to be at Arlington, it feels more personal when it's a hometown cemetery surrounded by family and loved ones, close enough that family can easily come visit, but it's a very hard, very personal decision, and I mean no disrespect to those who wish to be honored and buried next to brother and sister soldiers.

I can understand that. Something a lot more intimate being buried at home!

Amen. Thanks Bill I've been there to visit my grandfathers grave and it is truly a very emotional place to go.

Amen, Bros and Sisters.

Father wanted his earthly remains to be in the old family plot in northern Wisconsin.

His two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts...earned before his 21st birthday, stayed in Illinois. 269th Field Artillery (Heavy), US Army. Normandy, Breakout, Hurtgen Forest, Battle of The Bulge, Rheinland, Occupation.

Thank you for your kind comments.

While Arlington (once Robt. E. Lee's home) is a National Cmetary where many notable personalities have been intered it's not the only National Cemetary. Maybe we should all make a visit to any of the many National Cemetaries should we get the oppotunity.
