I would say it is one of the finer things in life. I have 2 Strats and they are completely different in the way they feel, play and sound. I really have a difficult time deciding which one is #1. It seems like whichever one I have in my hands at the time is #1.

I regret to say that my first Fender was something to forget. Probably because I bought it at Guitar Center. The neck twisted overnight between day 2 and 3. It was promptly returned.

I first started playing gigs back in 1963 when I was 13, around Manchester [England] I remember I used a Rosseti Airstream 3 and later moved up to a Hofner Galaxy. About 1964-65 or so I heard a group called the Yardbirds and they sounded awsome, the guitarist was using a Fender Telecaster and I was sold I had to have one. Being so young I had no money, I just stared out of the window at school, dreaming that one day.Oh yes, spending hours looking through the Guitar shop window drooling at these wonderful things as well. A few years actually. Then one day in 1969 I walked into that shop with money, enough money to by a Fender Telecaster and oh yes I did. For the rest of my life I will never forget the feeling inside me when I was taking it home, in the back of the group van, holding this treasure. I have had and got a few Fenders now, but there is nothing like the buzz and exitement of that first one.

I'd have to disagree. Got my first strat in the late 70's. It was a beat up 72/73 model I think. I don't have fond memories of it at all.

I've owned about 20+ basses in 20 years, I still have my 1st brand new Fender...It's special due to my grandmother helped me getting the bass.

Here she is, an '87:

Well I don't know about "precious" but my first one happened to be a goodie...early 70's Strat, maple body/neck, white pickguard and hardtail through body bridge, all original mint cond......but I sold it when I was 13 for 500 bucks...if I only knew...

20 years later and I can still vividly remember what it felt, and sounded like, I even remember the smell of it (the clear coat maybe?).

My 1st Fender was a brand new '71 Mustang. Had to sell it and I have regretted it ever since. Still have my 2nd Fender, an '86 Strat also bought brand new.
