I have a 2000 model year Dual Professional amp purchased brand new. It performs very well and I have used it on many gigs. I recently learned there may be a defective rectifier circuit based on the 6V6 tube and something about excessive voltage causing serious damage.

Does anyone know about this condition and how to detect or repair?

Surely you would of noticed by now if there were something defective. Although, it never hurts to be sure! Try taking it in to someone who is good with electronics/amps and you'll surely get a sure-fire answer then. :D

Well generally you would not need advice from a forum to "detect" if there is a problem like that. If a bad rectifier circuit was causing too much Vout (voltage) something would be burning..or very hot. You would certainly notice that because if a fuse didn't blow...something else would have and the "magical" smoke would be let out.

If the amp is performing well I wouldn't be too concerned. If there is an inherant problem I am sure Fender would do a recall or at the very least warranty it.

If still concerned as posted have it checked out by a good tech..they can check the bias and meter the voltages.

I'd repost this thread on the Modern Amplifiers forum, entered from the Forum Index, above. There's some frighteningly expert guys who look in there from time to time.

Myself, I'll do whatever you like with timber, lacquer and hardware. But anything to do with the electrickery inside the magic black box goes straight to the appropriate tech. I hate electric shocks!

Cheers - C

+1....post where you have a better chance an expert replying.

Although I have an EE degree I am no expert on Fender amplifers and am unfamiliar with your particular model. However even Einstein would have trouble diagnosing a problem on a forum when no actual symptons were posted.

But what I can suggest is to dim the lights and see if the tubes inside the amp look too hot. Generally they should glow a blue color..anything looking red hot can be a concern..and can lead to blowing tubes..and possibly an output transformer..which ain't cheap. Any doubts have it inspected by a professional tech..anyone with an ounce of sense would advise that.

Good luck with it..I hear those amps are kick a55.
