Count me in for that spending less-money-spending statistic. I have never spent so little for recorded music until I discovered Russian mp3-download websites!!! Woo hoo!!!
(I know I will probably get ripped by the professional musicians out there, but ... oh well ...)

The reality is there are a lot more alternatives than there was back in 2000. You've got well-stocked libraries, you have lots of WebSites like Songza and Slacker where you can listen for free.

I'm more concerned about the sound quality today than sales

I'm really surprised that the spending hasn't dropped more than that.

I generally download to sample, and buy if I like it. As a musician I will support people I like. But there is just so many more demands on my time I'd bet I spent less than 1/2 the time now just listening to music as I did in 2000.

They're always trying to find things wrong with humanity. Wouldn't it be nice if they'd just give it a rest? :?

I'm not compelled to buy or even listen to anything new anymore--it's rare when I actually hear something I can get enthused about nowadays--and usually that happens by pure accident.

I agree. I still buy CDs though, and I'll buy an unknown CD without hearing it first.

Yeah, but there is a lot of older stuff that is worth buying. I've been listening to old Genesis lately ... and, man, they were great. They also have a bunch of albums out (Trespass, Foxtrot, Selling England By the Pound, etc, etc) ... and that is just one example.

I am one of those. I dont download music, dont have an MP3 player or IPOD type device, havent bought a cassette, record, DVD, CD etc since the 1970's. I dont even own a device for playing music other than my car radio or transistor radio at work. I do own homemade cd's but people give them to me and I only listen to them in my car. My family is the opposite. They must have every do dad and gadget made. Sad eh?

"It's one o'clock and it's time for lunch. Um dee dum dee dum dee. As the sun beats down and I lie on the bench, you can always hear them talk."

Early Genesis is still one of my favs. That was one hell of a band. Peter Gabriel in his glam rock phase. Lot's of fun.

Mmm... yeah, I always buy the music. I can't just rip people off.

The only thing I have ever stolen was a quarter on my moms bedside table when I was four. I felt so badly about it I put it back.

That's really not countable.

I would not feel offended if you started calling me goody two shoes.

Ooh, ooh, wait!

And as an oulde hippie, 'am still an adherant of the, "If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem," life-philosophy of greater society-earth-universe.

Cosmic, man.
