So, my son was running late for school this morning, not getting his chores done, I was miffed, trying to get something quick for him for breakfast, grabbed a bagel and the long serrated bread knife, trying to hurry, slicing the bagel, knife starts to take a curving path, and...blood. Nothing serious, just sliced the end of my index finger on my left (fretting) hand. Bummer, really puts a damper on playing for a while. Guess I'll have to practice my slide technique.

Not only him, the lead guitar player for Black Sabbath had to invent himself a rubber tipped finger because of an industrial accident! 8)
Django was something huh? I watched a film about his life just a few weeks ago. So WHY can't I do it with all five digits?? :(

Hmm, yeah, I was whittling a stick once. Put the knife towards me instead of a way and released a knot and cut though my finger and made the top of my middle and part of the skin on the joint towards my middle finger on a hinge of skin. So, I have nerve damage on my middle finger, right were I use it for fretting. The part on the ring finger is fine, it wasn't as deep. All you can see on that is a cresent moon shaped scar, which looks pretty cool.

That sucks, man. The slide is a good idea, so I say go with that.

I know exactly what you're talking about and feel your pain.

Back when I only played bass and hadn't touched a 6 string one of my other hobbies was stained glass. Anyone wanna guess how often you cut yourself making stained glass pieces? Alot. And when you play bass the bigger strings make it okay, but you cut yourself and hook that flap of skin on the high E string, that hurts.

I made this one years ago for a buddy, it's about 18 in wide and 14 high.

I've really let up on glass work since picking up the 6 string.

Really?? I thought that was just a myth ... kinda like the one where Gene Simmons tongue was so long because it was
surgically extended by adding a portion of a cow's tongue . Remember that one?

No, that isn't a myth about Tony Iommi's fingers. I have a dvd copy of the "History of Metal/VH1 special" where he talks about the machine that cut off two of his fingertips. Than he designed some "caps" for his fingers, used lighter strings, and detuned his guitar to make playing possible again. That combination of things is behind his "dark" sound on guitar.

That cow tongue myth was popular long ago.

I can relate... 2 weeks ago I was installing new gunwales on my canoe, and slipped with the drill and went right into the end of my middle finger on my fretting hand. Deep too. At least it was right before vacation... so I wasn't able to play even if I could.
