Well, MTV Europe is having an awards show here in a few months, so they opened up voting. One of the categories is "Best Act EVER." Clicking it, I expect to find some classics, like a lifetime achievement award. There are a few, but here are the nominees for "best act EVER (note, ever, and most are current bands with 1-2 albums)

Some notables choices from the list include Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy, The Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne, Panic! At the Disco, the Pussycat Dolls, and Tokio Hotel.

Complete list is here: http://ema.mtv.co.uk/vote/#__

I just found it mildly amusing what MTV is coming to that they'll consider an artist with 2 albums one of the best acts ever while bands with outstanding collections (Pink Floyd) aren't even an option. I understand it's MTV and this means absolutely nothing, but c'mon.

Most of what you listed were lame, but hey, at least they have a few more, like Nirvana.

That list doesn't even come close to being comprehensive. It's pretty much geared to someone with the life experience of a 17 year old...which is their market of course. They threw in a few classic rock bands that they figured kids have probably heard of.

Pink Floyd............

Yeah, but Pink Floyd became the David Gilmour Project the moment when Roger left the band. The only reason Dave did not go solo is because he could make ALOT more money if he calls it PF. Although very unfortunate, it is still cool, 'cos we all love the REAL slowhand master ... Dave is awesome. But lets' call a spade a spade. Cool?

My nominee for best act ever was a band who packed stadiums before anyone else, had screaming female fans literally fainting and urinating on themselves at their concerts. The screaming was so loud that even the band couldn't hear what they were playing. Consequently they stopped touring and began making films. One contribution of their film-making was the introduction of their 'music-videos'. The band I'm talking about is of course, John, Paul, George, and Ringo........the Beatles.

Well ya gotta face it....those acts are what's bringin in the money these days..and you understand MTV has a bottom line. You also have to keep an open mind. Regardless of personal taste and opinions about those acts (which mine is they all suck for the most part), there is a generation that really like it. What is and isin't good entertainment is highly subjective.

It's funny when I think about it....one day I will have kids..and probably hate thier music..and then they will have kids. And I will be telling my grandchildren....."what is that crap you are listening to?!..why when I was your age we had Snoop Dog and Britney Spears". Imagine that?

Has far as the best "acts" I have experinced in a live performance from a rock band was Janes Addiction. And Korn as well. Now that was a show..and I like their music. So to each his own.
