Dear Santa,
Please put a Jazzmaster and a SG on my gift list.
A Vox AC15 would be nice too (make it vintage if it's not too much trouble). I've been good all year.

Now that I think about it, I consider myself extremely blessed in that I pretty much have my dream setup right now.

I totally agree. I had some major shiznit happen to me in 2006. After that, I figure life's too short to dream. So I got the guitar gear I wanted. I didn't go extravagant, but I got gear I'm happy with.

Hey, ASG. How do the 2005 and 2008 3-tones compare? Which do you like better?

Hey mrspyderman -

honestly dude, ive never played the 2005 - I bought it, checked it over, made sure it was all in tact, put it in the case - have taken it out a few times to take pictures of it - never had it plugged into an amp - Never sat down with it - its my sons guitar, he is only 2, so he has several years before he will be playing it

Looks wise, they are both beautiful - my 2008 has one of the prettiest bursts on it I have ever seen, even prettier than my 2001

But, to somewhat answer your question, the 2008 is amazing!! I love what they have done - Im going to get another 08 soon, I want a white one with a maple fretboard (kind of a pattern with me, white or 3-tone burst, do they make them in other colors? lol) - They play and sound amazing!

My current setups are fairly dreamy as well.

95 MIM Jazz bass- black w/ tortous shell pickguard, rosewood all orig.
95 MIM P-bass Special active pups- vintage blonde, rosewood, black
oddball batman logo shaped pickguard, 51 reissue neck, all orig (yeah this one is a rare one, I had to have fender authenticate it for me..real deal).
Vintage musicman stingray-year unknown- natural wood. rarely used.
Early 90's musicman stingray- maple neck, black w/old modified wilkenson bridge since I was ripping the strings off the saddles of the stock POS MM bridge when slapping. Killer bass but naturally reliced to the point I am selling it. Too ugly to use live anymore lol.
Late 90's Musican SUV-teal all orig, never use it really.

For amplification and cabs all SWR, 400w head running 4-4-10 goliath cabs..awesome!

For guitars I have an 02-03 MIM Cyclone..hotroded with humbucks and semi gloss black finish, pearl pickguard.
02 Jagmaster china, hotrodded same as cyclone.
Just sold a 62 jag reissue sunburst naturally reliced ;( needed cash (happens)
A handful of acoustics and various other brand axes like carlo robellis etc.
Current project is a black MIJ strat body "frankenstein" which I am installing 3 humbucks and a early 90's MIM maple neck, white single ply pickguard.

Amplification is a mesa boogie triple rectifier though an old heavily gigged marshall JCM 800 lead 1960.

Effects..really too many to list and can't even find them all but mainly use a digtech "whammy", hendrix wah, line 6 echo park, boss chorus and a zoom tri-metal. Also use the rectifier mesa boogie "bigfoot".

Has far as my real "dream setup"..easy. early to mid 60's Jazz bass ...early 70's strat with original hard tail bridge (had one and it was the shizznit). Sold it when I was a stupid kid for like 500 bucks...doh!

As far as amps and cabs I can't really do much better IMO then what I have now..other then just have more of it!!

Thanks for the very quick reply, asg.

The reason I asked is I have a 2006 (bought in 2007 new) 3-tone w/ rosewood.

I'm trying to learn to play at 44, figured I'd buy a Strat once I learned. I thought, life's too short just get it now. I'm really glad I did.

Congrats mrspyderman and welcome to the club. You made a good purchase there. My only advice is to play it. Then play it some more.

I have four rigs right now, and they all have exactly what I want and need for what I do. I could get crazy and get things I don't need, but this is what gets my recording, writing, local gigs and touring done...

#1
- 98 custom MIA strat
- Mesa boogie rectoverb combo
- boss ph-3 phaser
- boss dd-5 delay
- boss tu-2 tuner
- morley bad horsie 2 wah
- monster cables

#2
- 94 custom MIM strat
- 91 Fender Super 210 tube amp
- (same pedals and cords)

#3
- custom Taylor 310 CE L7 limited edition
- boss tu-2 tuner
- Fender acoustosonic amp

#4
- Ibanez SR750 bass
- SWR workingman amp
- boss tu-2 tuner

These fit all my guitar and bass gigs, for many styles and I'd never need anything else. In fact, I could do with a lot less. There are other guitar and things I have (guitar, latin percussion, DW drum kit, etc), but these are what I use regularly for gigs and touring.

There are other guitars and things I'd "like" and can get if I want, but I'm fine with this setup.
