James should go and swap that bag of designer tosh for a bottle of jack. he was far better when he was drinking. It sure dont meet the requirements for the metal ethos of substance over style

They haven't been metalheads, lived the lifestyle, for many years. They are successful businessmen with a product to sell.

In all honesty, I liked their older stuff the best, BUT, the Black Album, to me, represents the renaissance of Metallica's days, I agree, St. Anger was real piece of work :? but, this new album has to change some because the fact that they have Rob instead of Cliff, because the changing types of popular music, and because of their ages, If you compare the Kill 'em All tallica to the tallica now, obviously, they are getting older. It would be impossible, after all the changing times, the fact that people get older, not younger, the fact that, like mentioned earlier, Cliff was a big part of their older style, for them to keep on the way they did when they were younger.

Honestly, despite all the criticism of the new album, I really like ALL that I've heard of it.

Just earlier today, on the Metallica station on XM, Kirk was talking about Metallica fans being the best fans, because they will always support the band, if they don't like what the band is doing, they will say it, but they will still like Metallica, I guess I'm one of those fans...

I saw that one music video yesterday, and I heard the dude got voice lessons, and they were right, he did. But I heard that little growl in the voice, and was happy he hadn't lost it.

But, being a singer myself (and have taken voice lessons), I liked it well enough. It's not as hard metal as it was but it's still cool.

I have the album and for the most part, I'm enjoying it. Definitely a step up from their last few albums, but the mixing and production on a few songs is a bit weak, but overall I like it. Probably give it a 7.8/10.

I like the new album a whole lot, except for that country-ish twang James has in his voice now. Its a shame he can't still scream like he could back in the 80's.

I got it yesterday (September 12) and I really enjoy it. It has to be one of my favorites, especially because this the only album that I have ever looked forward to coming out, and got it on opening day, and I was actually alive when it came out, unlike others of their better albums.

You know, last time I bought a Metallica album I stood out in line for 6.5 hrs in midtown Manhattan to get the black album, and I was not too happy with the finish product. I really like this new album. I've not bought it yet, but I wouldn't mind shelling the $15 -$20 for this disc. It has that old Metallica vibe, but sounds different. Thanks RR, for getting Metallica back to their roots just like you did Slayer with their last 3 albums (I think).

so far I love the new album.

It does get back to the old days, but in all honesty I'm glad they didn't just try to replicate Lightning or Puppets. All good bands evolve and try to make their music better, if they didn't they wouldn't last long. Most bands that have been around for 25 years don't sound like they did when they first started anyway when they release new stuff. It is what it is.

in all honesty, I think it is still the same "metal" that it was back in the day, I really don't consider it metal though...

My Graphic Design teacher said taht someone must have gotten a copy before it came out...or something like that, but he brought it in and she was able to listen to it. I haven't heard it personally, but she said that it's really good and that they're back to the older, better, Metallica!

Heavier than hard rock but not thrash like Lightning or Puppets. It's pretty good.
