What do you think of it? I think that it dosen't really sound like Metallica, but it's got some cool tracks.

I have a thread similar to this already.... just FYI but I really like the new album, I think it sounds a little more like their older stuff...

I heard their single the other day, "The Day that Never Comes." I don't think I have much hope for them any more. :(

just had a flick through the download.

I really hope its their last album, their just a embarrassment now.
The guitar sounds are terrible, what are they doing, cant they realise that the ADA mp2/mesa power amp was their finest sound yet. Failing that the old plexi sound from kill em all and ride the lightning would of done better. whats the funny clean track on the rhythm guitar too it sounds awfull. Some people like Scott Ian can pull that off (sod's identity for example) James hetfield cant.
What i heard sounded very disjointed too, now theres a time for that where it builds tension this just sounds out of time.

Pains me to say it, Ive been a talica fan since i saw em at donington (now download) in 88.

They need to retire their way past their best. :(

You'd think they'd hear how displeased their fans are and you'd THINK they'd try and go back to their older stuff. But then again, James probably doesn't have the energy for that now. I saw a vid of them doing their demo of "Cyanide" live, it just seems like James is just barely pushing it.

Upon comparing that to their live performance of Whiplash in 88, Metallica is just trash now. Although, you have to give them credit for at least trying still. Although, I'd say, if they replaced James and wrote more thrash, they'd pick up like mad again.

If they replaced james they'd be a different band. Dont get me wrong some of the stuff on there is ok for a lesser band (think circa for nations label circa 86) as it was with st anger. Having Rick Rubin produce it wasn't a good idea, he's more suited to artists that have a formula and dont deviate from it. He's not suited to a band trying to find emselves and in someway on a journey of self discovery. You cant blame him completely though, they employed him and the metalica i remember would of had no problem putting him in his place.
I think their main problem is the loss of cliff burton, he was such a influence on em both musicaly and upon their lives lets face it justice could of been better in production, but atleast the production suited the dark element of the album.
I really wanted a return to form with this album, they wouldnt have to ask much for my forgivness of their latter years, but they just cant seem to do it.
It could be that im the one who's too old, but i still enjoy slayer, suicidal, anthrax sacred reich and even Megadeth although that bands changed alot. so it cant be me, it must be them.
A real shame, its the slow death of a giant in my eyes.

You're right, Metallica sucks hard. They've sucked since they released the Black Album and will continue to suck no matter which big name producer is behind the recording console. Their fire is gone. Listen to anything from Kill Em All, Ride The Lightning & Master Of Puppets and then listen to their new stuff. No comparison. It's sad to see one of thrash metals pioneering bands turn into what they've become, sellouts.
I'm with nikininja, give me some old Slayer, Motorhead & S.O.D. anyday over Metallicas new stuff!

I'll agree with you on that. These older bands are trying to make more melodic things because society is adapting a bit more to slower things. I'll also agree with you 100% that the loss of Cliff might as well killed Metallica instantly. You could tell the lyrical style apart from the first three albums to be totally different from anything after Master of Puppets, all of it stemming from Cliff's death.

I also always kinda saw Justice to be a bit of a tribute to Cliff. But anything after Justice was just an excuse. I am glad to see that Slayer hasn't changed much, but all the other pioneers of thrash are just killing the genre as a whole.

I am not impressed with it. They sound like they are trying to go back to their old sound, but failing. I just don't think they have it in them any more. Hetfield's voice sounds like crap too, in my opinion

So far, I'm really disappointed in their new album. In my opinion, it's basically a minor upgrade to ST. Anger. Maybe I'm being a little harsh, but I miss their trash days, and I was hoping this album would revitalize Metallica's legendary trash sound.

METAL GODS DON'T SHOP FOR ARMANI

James should go and swap that bag of designer tosh for a bottle of jack. he was far better when he was drinking. It sure dont meet the requirements for the metal ethos of substance over style
