I'm glad to hear you all had such a great time.

I'll live it through you. I don't play well enough for me to justify spending that amount of money, but I'm glad there are some lucky enough to experience all that. I hope Fender keeps the classes going, for those who want to attend.

you really dont have to play well to go .i dont .but i went anyway and im better for it .you cant spend 8 hrs taking lessons from Greg Koch and not walk away with something .it didnt matter your skill level you were a member of the fender family and were treated as such . they just let us hang out in the custom shop talking to masterbuilders who seemed delighted that we were there.there was no tourist tour guide mentality . fender went way beyond expectation in every way .hopefully more alumni will post and give more info . hi gman hope you and Joyce are well and good job norm post you said it well

[quote="gman-hammitt"][quote="WI KISSfan"]I agree that it's pretty cool, but the price is way out of line for us normal "middle of the road" income guys with families.

That's a real high end investment and lovely if you can float it. There's an awful lot of discretionary spending options in $6500 even if part of it buys a new axe. I'd rather forego that option, bring my own along, and see a reduction in nearly $1K of cost. In high season, round trip air coast to coast just to ge there and back would cost nearly that.

Hi guys,
Quite a few posts before I got here, pardon me being late.
Well, my point of view is that there are things you can't really place a price tag on.
You do so, because there are costs involved, but for what you get back the amount spent is in no way a correct measurement.
And this event was a brilliant example of this.
When I left, I did so with a tremendous feeling of possibility, that anything is possible and within reach!
What's the price tag for this? What are the retail quotes for hopes and dreams? How much would I pay to see them turn into reality?
My only advice, if you feel like doing it, just go for it!
I know I did so while having no real idea how I was going to pull it off and things sorted out themselves. Do you believe in magic?

If I got the chance to sit down with Dweezil and play dad's Florentine Pogen with him....well that'd be worth the $6K right there.

Your point is well made. The reality is that there are hopes and dreams which will often realize no fulfillment because hard choices need to be made.

I am pleased that you were able to realize this for yourself. In my own case, the numbers were not the issue. Other priorities and the time frame did not make it happen. Instead, I purchased an '89 Clapton for my birthday.

Maybe next year if the hurricane season leaves me be, witness our still forunate colleague 'hopkins' down there in "The Big Soggy"! Yes I know that at times one must live for the moment, but one must also have access to Plan B so as not to crash and burn.

Just to prove that reality bites...at the moment, it sounds like I have another leak in my roof and $6500 plus air fare might just have to remedy that.

See!!

Doc, I feel you.
I was speaking for myself, only you can possibly be the judge of your circumstances.
Have a lot of fun with the '89 Clapton and I wish you will be able to experience what we did, and a lot more, if possible.

Of course you were, as were all the others, and I have given credence to that. Perhaps that will be an option for me some day.

Inside of all of this is my observation that we are united in the common love for an art, a science, and the product of the creative genius of three men who, 60 years ago embarked on a journey who's end they could not have possibly envisoned in this day. The product of this endeavor has been recognized as a design and engineering achievement of the 20th Century. This guitar that we all love.

In many ways we have all purchased a 'piece of the rock' so to speak. Most of this multitude, I suspect, are individuals of reasonble means, and the investment in an American Standard is by no means a drop in the bucket financially. I remember what $249 was in '58. To some people, it was two months rent.

I have worked long and hard at my craft to reach a point in my life where I can say that I am comfortable, and can look forward to a secure retirement in which I might enjoy some perks.

But when Fender starts getting into marketing these high end Tribute items, and runs this Custom Shop blurb "When You're Ready", it troubles me that they are consciously stratifying their customer base and here's another point of view....I am bothered by the fact that my $3200 Custom Shop piece looks essentially the same from the front as a current Classic Player, minus the tortoise shell pickguard.

It is said that "The difference between men and boys is the kind and the price of their toys".

But not here!

Same here Paul, a real pleasure all the way.
Hope we will meet again, indeed; the internet is cool, but nothing beats real life.
Where are the others? C'mon, guys!
