I found my wife before she knew I played guitar. Once she found out, she was totally cool with the guitar. 2 years after we were married, she startd sighing whenever I pulled the guitar out to play. We have been together now for almost 20 years and she had learned not to "listen" to me when I play and I have learned to not to "listen" to her when she sighs.

As far as attracting girls/women with the guitar...maybe at first I thought it was cool, but now I just play to play. :)

This was an interesting thread.

It's not the guitar, it's the guitarist!

........that's because you obviously work successfully at generating your own power base, not being obliged to securing it from an outside source. .

The latter is what has been alluded to as the 'Bimbo/Groupie" mental set.

Doc

Yeah, I can see what you mean. But I never cared even before I began playing. I don't exactly see guitar skills as a form of power, anyway. It takes talent to be a good player, but I don't know. It's a fact, though, a lot of girls dig guitar players. For me, it's just a big plus. :D
Interesting topic indeed

Finally, the only person qualified to answer this question would be a female. Why don't we just ask the other female in the forum. Where are you Wild Rose! (Actually I think there are a couple more.)

For me it doesn't matter. I play for other reasons and the girls I know would just laugh at me if I tried to play them a power ballad.

Compare playing "Satisfaction" to the solo from "T.N.T." I think you just might turn more heads with "Satisfaction," girls or not. (But then, most girls these days don't know good music. No offense to those that do  )

Haha, thanks. xD No offense taken.

And with me being a girl, even before I started playing, I never really found guys who played guitar any more attractive than those who didn't.

I've only met two other girls who played guitar, which saddens me, because I think more girls should get into it.

I also wish guys would start appreciating females for their minds instead of looking at us like a piece of meat, but now I'm just beating a dead horse with that one....

In my experience, what women really like to hear from their guitar-playing significant others is some classical pieces while they take a relaxing bath. Offers to bring your amp and effects to see if it's possible to dial in your favourite tones in an acoustically bright environment are met with some resistance! :)

Mellow out.

Old threads are fun and amusing. Our society is SO freaking-stinking "today-sensitive."

Does it mean anything if one is a guitar player and then generates three daughters?

Do guitarists have more daughters than the general population?

Well, now you've met three. :) I used to think I was one of the only ones, but as I've started to get out and play more I've met more and more girls who play guitar too.

Yeah, me too. Guys wouldn't even talk to me before I played guitar. But actually, since I play guitar I have something to talk to other guitar players (mostly guys) about. And I make friends that way. And usually I'm treated as a friend and equal, not like a groupie or a hunk of meat. And I'd rather have it that way than have a seemingly never ending line of boyfriends like most of my friends do. My guitars are my boyfriends.

Haha, that's awesome!! :P I never would have thought that you'd be a girl!! Haha, sorry 'bout that.

I know, now it's a lot easier to make friends 'cause you have something to talk about. :P I have a few guy friends who play the guitar, and I love hanging out with them and just having a grand ol' time playing our guitars. Doesn't get much better than that!!
Haha, yes, guitars will always be there for us, through good times and bad!! Who needs a stinkin' boy, anyway? 8)

And I've met more than a few dudes who approach a GIRL playing the guitar with assumptions, that I suck at it and only know how to play the latest "Top 40" hit.
HA.
Please.

This one time, when I wanted to see how bad Squiers actually were, since a ton of people said how bad the quality was, I got Mom to take me to the music store we have down here. But it turned out to be just a big blow out.
The guy who helped us out in the store sat us down and handed me a Tele--not a Squier, just a really awesome Tele. He got a cord and I plugged into an amp that was there, and instantly, I fell in love with it.
I then tried a Strat, but I knew from when I held it that I liked the Tele better. I played all the same stuff on the Strat as I did on the Tele, and told the dude what the "verdict" was; the Tele was the victor.
"Ah, yes, I would've thought that you'd like the Telecaster better because it suits girls better--and it helps with their small hands and all."
....
I just about lost it.
It took everything I had not to go ape*bleep* on this dude, but I just slapped on a fake smile and laughed politely.
THAT is when I broke out the finger tapping and began to "shred".

Anyway.
Pardon my story/rant.
Needless to say, we walked out of there empty-handed.
