Dude where have you been? Chicks dig musicians. There are legions of goofy looking bastards out there who only EVER get laid because the are in a band.

There are even more losers with no job, no car, and no cash who get laid solely on the basis of being in a band (and not even a good band at that)

These bimbos are called . . . GROUPIES

Sad but very true.

Do you really think Lyle Lovett managed to marry Julia Roberts for his looks?

I'm a girl.
I don't really give a crap.
A boyfriend being a musician would be the best, though.
In fact, I wouldn't enjoy having someone who didn't obsess over/play music.
It's a huge part of my life.

...But does it make a guy hotter to me?

No. Freaking. Way. I've never understood that.

........that's because you obviously work successfully at generating your own power base, not being obliged to securing it from an outside source. .

The latter is what has been alluded to as the 'Bimbo/Groupie" mental set.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. But I never cared even before I began playing. I don't exactly see guitar skills as a form of power, anyway. It takes talent to be a good player, but I don't know. It's a fact, though, a lot of girls dig guitar players. For me, it's just a big plus. :D
Interesting topic indeed

To get the girls, depends on what you play. You could be Malmsteen but I guarantee more girls would want some guy who just knocked out a bad $@! Sleepwalk. I got a surprising amount (also the most) of attention from when I was in an 80s cover band... so who knows?

I can second that ... guys too. If you're a singer, you might get away with chording/fingering that backs up a song. But as a 100% non-singer, I've found that even my best licks (solo that is) elicit only polite "hey, that sounded great" comments. Play the melody of a song they know, even if totally corny though, and lots of people notice.

Heck, I've gotten nice compliments from a jazzed up version of Mary Had A Little Lamb and Eensy Weensy Spider. Dumb, I know, especially after you just killed yourself with something of high technical proficiency that got polite nods and a "hey, what's for desert?"

So nowadays, when playing at home (informally, dinner guests say), I play a few songs with recognizable melodies ... "Summertime" is another perennial hit and I tend to avoid rock because in many cases, the songs don't seem to have a melody line that people recognize sans the vocals.

Most girls like me cuz I write my songs. Unlike my buddys who just cover songs. And I am vocalist/blues harp/rhythm guitarist in my band. that helps too.

Why dig up an old thread?

Girls don't really notice my guitar skills, but that's because the only ones that know that I play guitar are close friends and family.

And yeah people are pretty much right. People don't care if a part is technically demanding and takes a while to learn, they only care about listening to songs they recognize.

I just CANNOT understand it. I can't even manage to put myself in that kind of mentality.

Compare playing "Satisfaction" to the solo from "T.N.T." I think you just might turn more heads with "Satisfaction," girls or not. (But then, most girls these days don't know good music. No offense to those that do ;) )

Throughout the history of rock music I do not care what the guy looked like fat.skinny.bald.whatever if he played in a hot band he had a hot girl and forget the famous level the roadies get laid for just getting a girl backstage to meet the band. But that era more or less is over.

I'll throw this into the mix. Which guitar do women find more attractive?
I have a few female friends that hang out from time to time and the seem to think my Les Paul is sexier than any of my strats.

Well, I guess at least most guitarists possess... erm... manual dexterity. Growing up, though, the guys who really got the girls played the blues harp. Took me a while to work out why... heh. For best results, play both.

Playing guitar never helped me that much with the girls. Of course, that may be a testament to my guitar playing more than anything else!

My wife, however, claims that she was first attracted to me largely because of my singing voice...

Your friends are wrong, Strats are the most attractive by far. :P Of course, that's coming from a girl who ends up spending the entire show just watching the guitar player's hands and trying to figure out what amp/effects he's using. So don't take my word for it.

Guys are usually into more heavy metal type guitars than Strats. And they like Les Pauls, especially my black BFG. I get a lot of comments on it. They all think it'd be great for shredding with, which is too bad since I prefer to play Freddie King and Cream songs on it. But they don't have to know that, at least not at first.

how could an opinion be wrong? I am simply stating what they said was sexier to them. I'm sure lots of women would have different opinions on the subject but none of them would be wrong.
