Recently I see his name in print as Edward Van Halen? Why is that? Is there some age at which you can't be called Eddie anymore?

I saw Davy Jones a few months ago... he doesn't go by the name David yet.

Maybe being a cancer survivor had more to do with it. I noticed the change a couple of years ago. Not sure why he did it.

We've got a 45 year old guy at the office who calls himself 'Tommy'. Somehow it's just wrong.

There's still a few from my NYC/Jersey youth that call me Richie. Most just call me Rich. I never asked for the change, it just happened.

No not really, I think even back then when he was young back in the 80's they also referred to him also as Edward Van Halen. I advise not to spend though $250,000.00 on Fender and get the Charvel model Frankenstrat. That was really the original one if you ask me.

I've been called Mac for my whole life (from my middle name).
Every once in a while, friends (or whoever) that know my first name call me Chase and it figuritively creates a mental lump in my head which makes me go "Uhhh... right... different...".

1) EVH has frequently gone by "Edward" and "Eddie" throughout his career.
2) Any one who knows him, though, only refers to him as "Ed". Also, if you are ever close enough to his bro to call him "Alex", he will correct you and say "Call me Al".

The other git player in our band is called Sam.
He's over 50 now and we still call him Sam.
His real name is Michael.
