Gave up cigs in the 80's.

Guitar playing won't cause cancer but might cause GBOH syndrome..
Guitar Banged Over Head Syndrome, occurs usually just after the OL discovers yet another new piece of gear in the house.

The upside to GBOH syndrome is it usually leads to a fresh bout of Blues work.

I don't think that it is. Smoking can cause all kinds of health problems. Guitar playing won't cause cancer.

But it will give you G.A.S. :D

You are never too old to start playing or smoking. I started playing when I was 9, gave it up for a bit in my mid-20s after a weird knife injury on my picking hand, but started back up when I was 29. I started smoking when I was 19, and have sort of been trying to quit. Quitting guitar was easier that qutting smoking. Learing both was pretty easy though

On top of all the health reasons now known about smoking.
The other thing about smoking is the cost!
I remember(sort of, this was the 60's) when I started it cost around 35cents for a pack and you could get it from the vending machine in the school foyer. (at the same time I was paying a whopping 25cents a gallon for gas). I quit when it hit 2.50$ a pack as being too expensive a habit to keep up.

Now I see my son paying 10$ a pack (OUCH), with a pack a day habit you could buy some really decent gear every 6 months or so instead!

peterp, interesting you mentioned it.

Gear collection has been built on the basis of stashing cost of a pack a day, for more than a few years. Yup, adjusted for the changing cost of a pack.

I started both when I was 13, back in 1963. I stopped smoking 4 years ago when I got COPD , now I just play my guitar when I stop wheezing.
