I dont post very often but i check the boards as much as i can and i have noticed that people around here hardly ever mention ska, reggae or rock steady in any of the topics. I realize that not everyone likes the ska/reggae sound, but i would have thought that out of everyone on the fender boards there would be a few people who do. just an example, when i searched for "sublime" on the boards many of the results were saying that the song was sublime, or the guitar playing was sublime. My question is do the people on the boards just not mention it because they don't appreciate it, or are the people on the boards just Blues based rock fans?

I enjoy listening to reggae immensely! But I don't play it. Ergo, I don;t mention it.

I like reggae for partying. I don't play it though and never listen to it at home. I'm sure there's a wide variety of tastes that people have here besides the SRV/blues and metal thats mentioned most often. I like classical, 70's prog rock and you almost never hear it mentioned here. Cept by me of course.

I listen to a lot of genres, and although those genres have changed over the years, I must say that the Blues remained as my main source of mojo since a long time, but...sometimes I must listen to some Classic music, Reggae, Beatles, World music, Led zep, Jazz, Rock, Meditation music, anything that comes to me during the day. When I plug my guitar it's to play the Blues. So no offense to any music genre nor anyone and I hope this response gives you what you were looking for.

Cheers.

To me it's all music and there is no such thing as bad music. There's just music that moves you and music that doesn't.

I'm a ska fan. I go in and out of my ska wave, but it's something that I always enjoy! Ragae is cool to, I don't listen to it as much as ska, but still, it's cool! I actually listen to ska more than blues. For me, all music is good except old country.

My son plays in a Ska band. They write and perform their own songs and have 4 horns, a good rythym section and a great female vocalist, but they cater to more of a younger crowd it seems.

I like a wide variety of music.

I grew up on classical music and listen to a fair amount of jazz. Not much call to talk about that stuff on an electric guitar website, though.

Wide musical tastes - but I just can't be doing with ska, reggae and hiphop. In fact, at one point (when in the Caribbean) I started wondering if I was actually a covert musical racist.

And then I remembered, no: I love Louise Armstrong; I love Duke Ellington; I love Ella Fitzgerald; I love Hendrix; I love BB. Phew, that's all right then. I just don't like reggae and its environs...

PS Mind you, gotta be said, its a very white male membership, ain't it? More of anyone else would be most welcome...

I like most styles of music. My favorites are blues, rock, and blues-rock. That's what I grew up with. The last few years I've listened to a lot more jazz.

I have the new Walter Becker CD, Circus Money, which has a lot of reggae rhythms in it.

I love all kinds of music (except rap......but then....I don't consider rap music-just talking smack)

However reggae is music, and I liked it (for a short time) when I first heard it. But after a bit, it seemed repetitive and sounded like the same thing over and over. I've never tried to play it, but it seems if I did....I'd be playing one or two chords over and over. I'd probably fall asleep, fall over (guitar in hand), hit the floor, tuning machines would get bent, I might land on one of my cats, have to take it to the vet, and lose a lot of money on vet bills.

For those who like that style......great......but it's just not my cup of tea.

I'm a fan of a few ska and reggae artists. They're not usually what I listen to, so I won't mention them at all compared to my usual modern rock references.
