I fired my bassist last week cause he was a jerk, trying to upstage us even when he didn't even know how to play

We almost quit a gig cause of him.

My other guitarist doesn't like songs with the chords A minor or E minor cause they sound sad so on our biggest gig he would not let us do House of the Rising Sun but we begged him to do our best song All Along The Watchtower. Finally we did it and it was a success. We had 30 minutes to preform and we ended up not doing half our stuff cause he hates my choice of music. We ended up doing a 15 minute 12-bar blues. We did 4 songs 12-bar in A, Sweet home Alabama, All Along the Watchtower and a instrumental samba thing

sheesh! Hopefully you guys have better experiences!

Had one guitarist who thought he was gods gift, like most lead guitarists do. Cost us two singers, one of which was incredible. Wouldn't share room with vocals and basically wanted to run a lead or solo over the entire song. Finally got fed up, now we've got one of the best rhythm guitars I've ever had the pleasure of playing with and our new lead guitar is...well he's fairly tasteful atleast.

Though, every lead guitar we've ever had ends up ripping off my basslines and moving them to guitar anyhow, it's pretty sad. We actually auditioned a guy once and were running through one of our songs, standard rock and roll, nothing fancy. Major key, four chords and he asks us..."You guys got anything with less chords?" Apparently, this joker had played rhythm for twenty years in local metal cover bands...shoulda known better right there.

So yeah, I've seen my fair share of chuds come and go.

we had to fire our singer because he was so arrogant, although that can be expected from a singer, but he could not sing and constantly started fights with the drummer so he had to go.

I've had pretty much the same band running since the early '90s. The original lead and rhythm guitarists both left at different times and on excellent terms. The two replacements have been in the band 10 years and about 3 years respectively. They do most of the singing, and we all generally get along quite well. Now, some of the OLD bands I was in.................

Perfect guy for a U2 Tribute band, right? Unfortunately, not the best singer.

Once had a drummer who thought every song was a prog rock masterpiece and he had to play off time and constantly improvise....as loud as he could. He didn't work out.

Isn't it funny when people complain about their worst bandmates it's always the drummer, singer or lead guitar player? You rarely hear people complain about rhythm guitar players or keyboardists.

Had one guitarist/vocalist that owned his own PA system and loads of other gear. He willingly let the band as a whole use it for gigs, etc. A set portion of money went into gear maintenance after every gig. However, whenever he had a differing opinion he would take his stuff and leave. Just like a four-year-old throwing a tantrum. He didn't last long...

Got rid off the bass player, besides being a drug-abusin alcoholic , he was to much into PHISH and wanted every tune to be one long jam, then the band folds when we discovered we didnt like each other anyway

In my so far lifetime of playing in bands I was fortunate to only having 2 ego headed band mates. One was a guitarist, the other a lead singer. Since I am not playing in bands anymore, I do not have to deal with that headache.

I had a lead guitarist that on the morning of our first (semi) gig where we had about a 20 minute set started drinking at 900AM and we were supposed to play at like 10 ... needless to say we found him at the bar 10 minutes before for played taking shots of jack daniels... he got up and started the first song before I had my guitar in my hands... it was pretty bad we quite after the first song and left him at the bar...

This is a good thread...Thanks for posting

Years ago, at a jam session, this guy wanted me to be his lead guitarist, seemed like a nice guy so I accepted. Went out to his place for rehearsal. The bandleader (bass player) had a guy with an accoustic that sang most of the songs (nice guy btw) The bandleader didn't play that well and sang terrible
Well the first gig the bandleader decided to change all of the keys for songs and decided he'd sing half the material. we were fired before the night was up. I was so embarrased I played off to the side with my back to the small small croud

Years later played with a reall druggie...got us fired from several gigs..tried to buy stuff off an undercover cop, got arrested onstage, club owner didn't want us back.

Dealt with so many arrogant singers I have a rule...EVERYONE has to play an instrument. Very seldom will I play a gig where I back up a singer. There are a few in this area that are nice and professional but that's few and far between
