Does anyone have knowledge of a Jack Smith as being the head of Fender ampliphiers in the Fender company from 1960 thru 1976 ?

Would anyone possibly know of any reference documentation that may also verify this ?

Thanx ahead for your time mates ! :)

This is from http://westcoasttubeworks.com/History.htm

Jack attended engineering school in southern California and was eventually hired by Leo Fender to work with Harold Rhodes on the development of the Fender Rhodes Electric Piano. From the period of 1963 to 1975 Jack filled various positions within the Fender organization including department head of Production and Service for all of Fender’s products and well as a fair amount of time in Research and Development.

No problem!

I was recently doing some "research" on vintage amps and remembered this article. Sorry... that's the only article I could find about him.

Good luck!!!

Ziggy, I read thru the article.....hey, thank you ! I couldn't find a single thing, so you did good ! :)

Reason I ask is I have the opportunity to purchase a '64 Deluxe Reverb that belonged to Jack Smith. He has had the amp it's entire life. I understand Jack passed away recently and his entire musical collection of amps and guitars was purchased by a close friend of Jack's and he's selling off some of the gear.

Thnax again for your help ! :)

Hi Bill, I got my info thru a friend. I'll find out the website and post here for ya (and others). I do know that he just got all the gear in a few days ago from LA, so not sure if he'll have all the gear posted yet, but I do know it's a huge amount of amps and guitars from the private collection. I also know some of the gear is being kept for his own collection, but most of it is being sold.

I'll keep ya posted. :)

That would be very cool. Is the gear in NC? Cuz I am in SC and I might want to make a road trip! :)

Bill, the gear is in Virginia. I'm supposed to speak with the guy over the Labor Day weekend and I'll get us sum more details.

Also, I run a modest studio up here in Concord NC, call B# Studios. I get down to Rock Hill to visit a buddy of mine. Also, I'm puttin on a concert in Fort Mill SC on Sept 27th. We have 6 bands comin....maily blues, cept my band, we play Floyd, Santana, Cheap Trick, Ozark MD, Grand Funk RR, and sum originals.

It's a place called McHale's Irish Pub. It's $8 to get in....actually it's an outdoor concert, wooden stage.pretty cool place.

Where ya located ?

I am in Darlington County. Just north of Florence.

That sounds like a fun time! I will have to check that out! I don't know if I will make but I will try! Rest assured, if I am there, I will be the one with the Fender Lounge shirt on! :)

Guys, you had asked me to provide a link on the guitars and amps that came from Jack Smith's estate: www.nedsguitarshed.com

He's working to get all the pics up for all the gear, but it'll take sum time. The owner is Ned Willson....great guy to work with.

Give him a shout if you have any interest in vintage gear. (amps & guitars)....tell him "MO" sent ya :)
