The wide variety of responses here that pass as 'Perfect' for one is totally ignored or picked at by another. In the days before digital, most albums sold on the strength of one hit song and we naturally expected all the rest to be of the same ilk. Few artists were ever able to be that consistent. Of course there were those albums that actually generated more hits from its other tracks after it's release, but again, far and few between, which gave rise to the 'Greatest Hits of....' type albums.

At that time we couldn't pick & choose (digitally arrange) what songs to play off the collection unless we did it manually, compiled a stack of 45's or taped the tunes. I suspect when a vinyl album was played for some of the tunes, the 'fillers' were tolerated and may have grown on us, thus (eventually) creating what seemed to be a 'perfect' listening experience.

Some albums used a form of "inter-connectivity" so that all of the songs related to each other. There are many different ways to do this as evident by the examples: The run-together tracks of Abbey Road, the 'story lines' of Tommy & Quadrophenia, the themes of albums like Desperado and the interspersed narration of Ogden's Celebrated Nut-Gone Flake Tobacco album (by the Small Faces).

Artists who are consistently in the 'same vein' with their material, like B.B. King, Chuck Berry or George Thoroughgood, can become a boring drone of their own obvious cliches', where there is no longer any surprise from one song to another. As good as the finest collection of talent has been over the years, maintaining a balance between consistency and variety is a soul-sucking drain that few survive, not just as individual artists but as a unit.... group-band. What we relish listening to an album and what we see and hear at their live concert can also be either a gigantic plus or a huge disappointment.

We, as musicians (and more specifically as guitarists), tend to listen and hear things with a more focused ear than others do. Point is, we all have a different focus, even as narrow as 'the guitar ear' might be. Tone, style and technique are all unconscious judgments we make toward any song. It's just in our nature.... the human element in our strive for perfection is the very thing that keeps us from attaining it. The very suggestion that perfection exists as produced by humans, is rather in-human.

What we have in this thread is a list of efforts that we, as individuals, judge to be reasonably close..... near perfect; or a collection of consistent efforts that 'hang together' (flow) extremely well. Let's give this thread a little bit of elbow room and take 'Perfect' with a grain of salt. (That's my 2 cents.)

"Perfect" is a matter of "taste" afterall.

How about Yes's Fragile and Deep Purple's Machine Head as examples from my youth.

I think that's why the word perfect is in quotes.

That's why I put it in quotes. Perfect is in the eyes (or ears in this case) of the beholders. Obviously, not record is perfect, nor will one ever be, because it's impossible to please everyone with every song. This is just a personal perfection in that every song is enjoyable to listen to in your mind.

Yes indeed, Close to the Edge is close to perfect as albums go.

Three songs makes it easier to attain perfection.
