I average 6 gigs a month. I'd love to do more. I also play at my church every Sunday.

I see that many of the posts indicate that they play at churches. I was just thinking that I've played at a lot of different venues (including a nursing home unplugged gig once), but never at a church.

Some of the other various venues/gigs that I've done :

I once did a "going away" party - Mob hitman going to prison.
Several county/state fairs opening for major acts.
In parades on a moving flatbed. (trickier than you may think!)
Disney and other various cruise ships.
A few "gentleman's clubs."
Sports stadiums and arenas.

Best gig ever - Nascar gig at Pocono Raceway in PA - those folks who are into Nascar really know how to party!!!

I can't top the "going away" party. LOL I have also never done any stadium gigs. That would be sweet.

Before dirt (1969) I played the "Lubbock Internatinal Pop Festival" with Barry McGuire, The James Cotton Blues Band, Buddy miles and others.
I helped Wavey Gravey move some PA equipment (lol).

I played for Surfer Magazine and Dick Dale came up and talked to me after we played. I also played for Ocean Pacific on the beach right next to the Hunnigton Beach pier. They had a sky diving team jump and come down trailing colored flares. You could see the police cruisers speeding toward the beach to arrest them when they landed. (No parachuting on to public beaches, guys.) When The police were waiting when they hit the sand. What tune did we strike up when they were about to land?

I Fought the Law (and the Law Won).

In the last band I was in where we played alot (almost every weekend) we did a parade gig once, for the cable company that I worked at. It was on a flat/open trailer pulled by one of the large utility bucket trucks which is where we got the power from. Sounds like a good setup? It would have been had the driver known how to drive with a clutch, almost lurched one or more of us off that trailer during the parade.

We played during a 24 hour "walk-a-thon" for cancer once. It was pretty cool, high school track and we were set up in the middle, there were 4 or 5 bands of different types and we took turns playing for all 24 hours, it was free but for a good cause we had two slots, the second of which was like 4am-5:30 am. About 100 walkers at any one time on the track, very different type of set up, but sports related.

Currently gigging just about once a weekend, anywhere from 3 to 4 hour sets with my band.

Not a bad way to make income considering I'm a student and don't have time for a day job. It's all about the fun and expression, but making money from it is always exciting.

Hardly at all anymore. Haven't been in a rock or fusion band in 5+ years.
Guess the time has come when I'm semi-retired
I moved to this very small town a dozen years ago from the big city. Of course not as many opportunities.
When I first got here I jumped into a hard rock original band, a Top 40 cover band, a fusion band and a jazz trio.
One by one they broke up and the jazz gig is the last one standing.
I could go play weekend covers, but it's about an hours drive either way. The set lists are way old rock standards and the money is not very good. Not much motivation for that scene anymore.

Fri and Sat jazz gig here in town. 7 - 10p
Coffee shop jazz Sat morn (same guys) 9 - 11a.
Couple of older cats. Piano player is OK, but the drummer is fabulous!! Old union guy who's backed a lot of big names in the 40s - 60s. A GREAT pleasure to play with this guy!!

When fall/winter rolls around, me and my friend are going to clear out a spot under a pavilion next to his house so we can practice under there. And not many people live around that area, so it makes a nice spot. 8)

I play for three services every Sunday at church (Stratocaster or Telecaster). I also go with a group to a local convalescent hospital every other Monday night (Tacoma D4).

In December I play in a production called "Christmas Alive" that covers a wide spectrum of music from big-band to pop, and is therefore very challenging and rewarding.
