I don't gig anymore. GB is big on cover bands. I like playing originals. When I lived in the East Coast we gigged 1/week sometimes 2. NYHC scene was what I belonged in. Here in GB they like pop/hard rock covers.

We get together and play as a band once a week with a goal of playing out maybe once a month. Definitely just for fun, we don't kid ourselves about quitting our day jobs.

Me too. I play with three other guys once a week. We are trying to get three songs tight enough to play at the Christmas open house at his gallery. I am definitely the weakest link since I have only been playing for 6 months or so. But it is a blast! It keeps me motivated too.

The weakest link...........kinda how I felt a year ago. I play with a decent lead guitar player (I back him up on rhythm), and we've been playing for about four years together.

I only goofed around with a guitar many years ago.......then let it go completely. Well.....this friend of mine talked me into buying an electric guitar (I think he just wanted someone to play with him and back him up). I did that, REALLY sucked at first, but kept at it, and got good enough to give him some kind of background to play against.

Anyway........last year a band broke up, and we started playing with the leftovers (A bass player and a drummer). These guys had played in a band together for 15 years, and played at all the local casinos. Well, I felt like the weakest link for sure. It was tough to keep up with them, but I did. And.........I was pushed so hard by these guys, I felt it made me better. So........even weakest links get to play and be a rock star, every once in a while.

About twice a month. Down a bit from this time a year ago, but that's OK. I was in a band until about 6 months ago, and we gigged once a week or two. Now I just play on the Worship Team at church about every other week.

How often do you and Chet get together? He's coming to your house soon so we expect something we can listen to. :)

Being on opposite sides of the country, we only see each other once every few years.

That depends on how adventurous he will be when he gets here. Neither one of us are very good at just jamming. I'm pretty OCD about my playing and have to have all of the sour notes worked out before I go in front of people. That's why I'm a little more at home in my studio.

I haven't been in a band for at least ten years. I miss it, but I don't miss playing covers. God I hate covers. Did a backyard jam at a neighbor's party a few weeks ago, that was kinda fun. Talent level wasn't very high but everyone seemed to enjoy it, mistakes and all.

To me that's the best kind, no pressure and a lot of fun. Even the people that don't play a instrument give it a go. Even us so called musicians are just passable

I play every week in my Youth Group's praise band. The songs are slow, not my style, but hey, I still gotta get my kicks some how. That and a man once told me, "Once you get together with a band like that, its usually for the best if you stay there." Although we always perform best when the guys with the egos don't show up.

Although I may be gigging even more about a year or two from now...

I'd love to get out there and gig. I'm a bassist who can't seem to find a band to get playing with. I figure I'd like to get out there with a band willing to make some good original music that isn't metal. Unfortunately, being in a small town, it's really tough to find anything like that. >.<

I'm trying though. I'm going to be posting "band wanted" ads all over the place and see if anything pops up.

hah, I've only been bass playing for a year, might pick up acoustic guitar soon, thinking about it. i have a couple of friends who play guitar, we jam sometimes, but they're worse than me :P

I would want to when i get better though

(lol I'm not great and they're not terrible, just they've been playing for a shorter period of time, and didn't take much lessons/don't know how to play very much, sort of limited to one style)

Until 3 weeks ago, I hadn't played regularly for 20 years.

There is an open blues jam here every Sunday. A couple of weeks ago, the new band and I played a set. http://www.kentuckybluessociety.com/Jam26.htm

(That's me in the Padres hat)

Doing it again this Sunday.

If you're in the area, bring your axe and play a while.

Monday nights is "boys night" for us. We have a great practice room builit in an outbuilding on our drummer's property, so we can have the whole PA set up and our own space.

Lost our keyboard player in April and still kind of regrouping, but the goal is to get back to once a month on average gigs. The band has made enough to support itself and we get out once in awhile. More would be fun but at this stage of my life with my kids and family it wouldn't work. I don't feel too bad about that though, having a great family requires some sacrifices.

I also play in a group at our church once a month on average.
