I'm just trying to get familiar with the community and how often they gig or play out with others?

I was gigging anywhere from 3-5 times a week and travelling around the East Coast before cancer changed things for me. I'm hoping to be able to resume giggin' by next Spring, but not sure if I want to play in a roadband anymore.

Don't feel bad if you're not in a band or have stopped giggin' out due to family, work or health constraints because I know that it happens to the best of us and sometimes just an occasional gig or recording session or even a jam is enough to satisfy.

I'm not gigging at all.

I'm not sure what you mean by "play out with others". But if it means playing with someone else, then I probably do that a couple of times a week. I have a friend who plays guitar and we get together a couple of times a week, and play for about three hours. Nothing serious, just fun stuff.

I don't gig, and I haven't played out in public or privately with any other musicians in several years.

We get together and play as a band once a week with a goal of playing out maybe once a month. Definitely just for fun, we don't kid ourselves about quitting our day jobs.

That's what I meant, sorry if there was any confusion.

I play with people at our church every now and then (once or twice a month). I'd like to be more active, but with two small kids in the house, it is a little tough to get away.

I am dead in the water now. I practice enough to keep my fingers ready though.

I played in a bar band for tweleve years. We backed up two different female vocalest and then a male vocalest for a long time. I played a pre-CBS Jazzmaster for years and then an American '62 reissue strat and finally a '71 (or so) Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul Custom with single coils. The Fenders were my favorites. I got rid of the Les Paul after the band broke up and got two hardtail 2004 American Standard strats which I love.

We had a very loud band. I played thru two Twin Reverbs and switched to a Dual SHowman Reverb head with a 4X12 Hartke guitar cabinet. It had spun aluminum speaker cones. The Twins sounded better.

In the early days of the band, I played thru a souped up '66 Fender Deluxe Reverb with a JBL 12" speaker. Jim Kelley (prior to making Jim Kelley Amps) had it putting out 44 watts on the scope. I was playing thru it abou two hours ago. I went thru a lot of effects but went back to a Tom Scholtz Rockman 100 with a Sholtz rack mount. I hear that it is the only effect Springsteen uses.

I do miss being in a band and if I get a job where I get nights off, I may try it again.

Oh, one more thing: I did quit the day job and just played clubs for a year. Boy was that a mistake. Playing to eat instead of for fun was a bad idea, for me anyhow.

Me too. I play with three other guys once a week. We are trying to get three songs tight enough to play at the Christmas open house at his gallery. I am definitely the weakest link since I have only been playing for 6 months or so. But it is a blast! It keeps me motivated too.

Great feedback and thanks for sharing with the community here.

Hopefully we'll get some more responses and get to know each other a bit more from this.

Some of the 70, that have viewed this thread, but haven't posted, it's okay to say you're still learning, or your wife won't let you play in a band, or you can't find the right band, or you're burnt out from giggin' or whatever the situation is. This is interesting stuff!

Keep 'em coming...

I'm still learning on my Squier.... so playing out for me is by the back door with a bunch of disgruntled neighbors for an audience!

Currently not gigging out, and I am having a tough time finding people to play with similar musical interest that I can tolerate for more than one jam together. Noone from my circle of friends plays or has any interest to play.
