The presidential campaign just hit me now that the Democrats are having their convention. The candidates we have now are the worst in my lifetime. On one side there is a guy with a far-left track record and socialist values. On the other side we've got the evil mastermind of the McCain-Feingold abridgement of the first amendment. I can't vote for either of these turkeys. Usually there's somebody I can hold my nose and vote for.

Sometimes I wonder if it's actually Congress that runs the country. :?

No. It is the big-business lobbies that own Congress that run the country.

Just like we all have our own opinions about guitars, we all probably have our own ideas about politics. Here's mine...

I'm a big Obama supporter for several reasons, but the biggest one is that I believe that we can't make any progress (not just in politics, but in anything) if we allow our decisions to be guided by fear. Why not be brave and try to do something you can actually feel good about and care about? I agree that both candidates are pandering, but if you listen to their messages, Obama is pandering to people's hopes and dreams while McCain is pandering to people's fears.

Just an observation, but while watching the convention, I have been impressed by how many of the speakers are first generation college graduates. I think this gives them a unique perspective (compared to sons of former presidents and senators and the like) on what the American dream really means.

+1 And thankfully neither candidate has a little brother in office down here in Florida to steal the election from the rightful winner. 8)

The message may be hope, but the policy leads me to despair. (for both candidates.) Maybe there's a song in that.

I agree......I'm not happy with either one of them. But.....Obama is just plain scary.

That's scary too. They keep talking about how low Bush is in the polls. Congress has a 9% approval rating........lowest in history. Woe is me.........we're doomed...........

Being the long haired, liberal, communist, hippie freak that I am...I'll be voting for Obama. I can't stand the thought of 4 or 8 more years of the Republicans playing Robin Hood for the rich while my privacy and personal freedoms disappear.
