When i say faithful I mean guitars you use all the time

I guess my Kingman, I've had him for a year now but hes got some dents and hes the best guitar I have. Then the Tele. Shes my electric choice. Even though I've only had her since March.

Be nice to see what other people say for their guitars.

if you didn't buy it that way...i'm not a big fan od the aged type guitars, but if it gets beat up through heavy playing, its a symbol of your playing it and it gives it more meaning and more of a story behind it

I really don't *get* the whole "new relic" thing.

I prefer to relic mine the old school way...play the dickens out of 'em. 8)

Yes but only if the use and abuse is real and not purchased. The best way to "relic" a guitar.... Use the darn thing!!!

I love relics. A "true" relic can tell a story. There's soo many things you can figure out about the player by looking at his worn out guitar.

I don't have anything against reproduced relics, that is, when their done right. Fender custom shop relics don't do it for me though. Fenders relics looks like they started the project, but stopped halfway through. I was looking at a heavily relic'ed telecaster by Fender a few weeks ago and it looked like crap, half the paint was worn off and showing the bare wood, but the wood was completely clean, almost like the paint fell off 5 minutes ago, the wood should've been aged as well but it wasn't.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is, the guys at the Fender custom shop are doing half-a$$ work. Their relics don't look authentic enough. I can understand the number of guitars they have to produce and might not be able to spend alot of time on one guitar in particular, but if their going to do the job they need to do it right, if not, they need to quit doing it all together.

I prefer relics by private individuals.

^ agreed, i don't like the look of relics... it doesn't look like battle scars, just pre-made dents and such... it's like ripped jeans, people pay more for jeans with holes already in them for some reason, it doesn't make sense to me

I do not like reproduced relics. To me, it has to be an orginal guitar that has been played by someone for years with a natural wear and tear.

I have had my Charvel since the late 80's and it was the only guitar I played for years. It has it's minor knicks and dents, but the thing is, when you play a certain guitar over and over, you'll find it is the most comfortable instrument because it has molded to you.

On one hand the relics are pretty cool, due to the fact that it is hard to replicate the sound of a vintage guitar without the actual vintage guitar. These vintage guitars are usually pretty tough and expensive to come by. So it's pretty cool that they are trying to actually replicate it by actually building the guitars to have the look and feel of a vintage guitar. On the other hand those relics aren't the real deal and it's kind of silly to spend the extra money to have your guitar beat up for you. I agree that you should just own a guitar and use it and make it your own. If you want that sound and feel of a vintage that badly though, I guess it's your choice.

haha I call my first guitar, a Squier, "Old Faithful". I can't say it's reliced, but it's been beat to hell and back, dismantled, rebuilt. Even if it's a Squier, strats are pretty reliable. I still mess with it sometimes. Of course, it's not reliced, because NOTHING can relic through that literally plastic feeling poly finish.

On the other hand, my nitro finished Voodoo Strat is starting to show some wear. There are a few points where I've worn through the finish on the fretboard from bending and the wood has gotten dirty. And then I can tell where belt rash and rubbing is starting to take off finish on the back. Personally it's all character. I love it, especially because it's natural.
