Yeah I kind of want an interactive experience with the people who make my music gear and it seems like Fender isn't here for that anymore.

I have never had a Facebook account and (IMO) Twitter is a garbage pile of garbage posts.

I can perfectly understand why some would participate in social media such as Facebook and Twitter for those who can benefit from exposure. How about over exposure? I’m not migrating there
to do business or play with media since I had 24/7 and 30 years of enough media on a global scale, and some of that was not of my choosing either.

I chose this Forum because I chose it and because it is what it is. Unique and not Facebook or Twitter or . . . Those type of social media businesses are predatorily active to a point of disgust in my book. When was the last time you saw this Forum brought to a regulated hearing of abuse or related question? When was the first time? The others? Oh, yeah right. Ongoing. That’s a sure thing that one’s activity will continue as is.

I now flex with the Internet much more so than I did, but I’m far from taking that ill founded cruise with that which is offering me a great looking free or otherwise trip to Devil’s Island complete with trinkets, hors d’oevres, and happy hour while sharks and serpents lurk in the waters. Besides, I safely take great fun in laughing when these moguls get nailed with all sorts of disruptions that, time and time again, unfortunately, hurt those on board. It would not be a surprise to see it all go down with the ship or to have fares added or raised to keep it afloat when the next economic revolution occurs and sponsorship gets tossed in the wake. Maybe and maybe not. In either case - not my concern.

Most of the sites and services I indulge in are likely sharing with 3rd parties and other gatherers of data, some of which I know, and some of which I will never know. What and where it is going is totally based on trust whether written or vocalized details are provided or not, Good luck with that. If it wasn’t for a search years ago on Google showing my correspondence from an unrelated application being revealed on Facebook in the search choices, and my not having any subscription or known agreement, I would never have discovered the covert linking which somehow over years has vanished with similar practice. Such is the nature of the beast.

It’s the giants and upcoming ones of the social media that are well known for data mining that make me think of Hansel and the witch about to throw me in the oven. Offer me a cookie and I’ll go anywhere.
Each to their own. Someday there won’t be a choice. It’s getting close to that now. Unfortunately, there is a game where we are pawns being played. We are moved to directions others choose, and corporations including small business knowingly or unknowingly are offered incentives to push us there. Competition to and for business are also factors. Then again, there are legal matters involved. On one hand we’re being regulated by government and on the other hand we are regulated, controlled, or enticed by business. I’m not ready to be taken off the board yet, though I know it’ll happen even if I don’t make a move. Bring it on. Bring it on. Phhht!

I’m no genius with technology, but better than the average Joe. Perhaps, if I wasn’t and knew less or didn’t care, or needed to travel to that promoted destination I’d. be on the passenger list.

I think this is an opportunity for Fender that should really be reconsidered, even if restructured. Any business worth their salt would do well by grabbing the opportunity not only with the customer in mind, but by offering that which the competition doesn’t offer. I know the opposite is true too; however, consider how online shopping has become successful. A great deal of their business is because of customer service and offering the alternative of acquiring that which others do not provide. Fender, your Forums meet all of these requirements. If you were to take us on that trip, I might even consider buying a reasonable ticket, and others may jump on board too. Although, with or without that ticket doing the math works out to be beneficial to all in the long haul. IMHO.

Until or unless there is a Checkmate, I’ll sit back and watch how the game plays out. I prefer to sit at the small games table where the odds In my favour are better, and I know I’m not alone.
Just sayin’.

YMMV

Sometimes, the biggest vessel isn’t the best choice to go from A to B. There’s all kinds of hazards, and one might get lost.

Well, well, well. Looks like the little guys did a better job. That’s what happens when management makes bad decisions.

I salute you, Brad for the good ones. Best.
- Gary

 That's it, let's send the forum out with a BANG instead of a whimper. It would be a fitting tribute to the days when the forum had more of a Wild West flavor.

You're kicking up a fuss about Fender closing the forum, and selling off your Fender guitars in protest.
Fender own Gretsch.
You'll need to sell the Gretsch too.

Enjoy playing your Guild.

For exactly this reason.

If they had the slightest interest in those who have contributed over the years they wouldn't be shutting the forum in the first place.

Funny thing though. If they are shutting the forum because it isn't hitting the traffic levels deemed appropriate to maintain it, with the current state of the World I would think there is every possibility more people will use the Forum if they are stuck in at home....So not only is Fender shitting on all of us who have contributed over the years they are shunning a social responsibility in removing a way for people to connect in this time of crisis.
