maybe I can try the g&l or reverend forums for my guitar fix. who knows, maybe they can convert me..i did see a s-500 at a local store in irish ale that got my interest. (just kidding btw). I do thinks its not a great idea. we can only see what fender wants us to see-no inter-action.

my dad bought my 1st fenders (musicmaster and Princeton) from a local guitar shop in 1962. the shop is still there, but unfortunately they no longer carry fender products-I don't think any small shop can afford to. I stopped by for the 1st time in years and played some g&l and reverend guitars-all very nice. I also remember how nice I was treated by the owner. it made me do some thinking.

i'm getting up in years (66). due to various medical conditions, I can't play as well as I used to, so my playing is limited. I don't plan to buy anything new, but if I did, I would question my loyalty to fender. they don't seem to care about their customer base.

I'm really disappointed that the forum is closing, I login almost every day. I feel a connection to Fender through this forum, yes I've still got all my guitars but it just won't be the same without it.

I've enjoyed the forum and subforums a lot and been inspired and enthused by the posts and the people here. It's a sad day.
I don't do social media so I suppose this is goodbye from me too.

I agree...the search feature on these forums is THE VERY FIRST tool I use when researching information when I'm contemplating purchase of a new or used Fender product. Yes; there are other places to do research, but Fender Forums was always my first stop.

To me, it seemed like (and I could be wrong because I've never hosted a forum) Fender really didn't have to do a whole lot more than "approve" the first post of a new registered member, and make sure a 'pop-up' ad appeared every now and again asking you to sign up for their newsletter or playing lessons. There was evidence of occasional "over see" and Troll removal...but nothing more stringent and time consuming that would lead me to believe that this statement:
Quote:
we are now at a point where we need to refocus our resources elsewhere.
is anything other than convenient for them.
The look, layout, and format hasn't changed in the 6 1/2 years I've been posting here, so I just don't know how "time consuming" these forums have been for Fender employee's.

I'm an admin on a forum associated with a sports car manufacturer and your comments above are pretty much spot on. On that site, aside the very occasional fire fighting when people break rules and want a rant, there is very little to do. Several of us have offered to assist here as moderators to help the "first post" back log but these offers have never been accepted.

There is a hosting cost but I really can't see it is anything other than pocket change to Fender.

A forum, particularly one with history and credibility, provides a wealth of detailed information requiring no more than a search. The social media that Fender is suggesting as an alternative doesn't have that facility or wealth of historical information accrued over years. These other platforms are no substitute and I will be avoiding any contact with any Fender based content, including that by 3rd parties.

As a direct result of this forum I have learn't so much about the history of the guitars, and brand I once loved. The options and potential, the alternatives and things I didn't realise I wanted, until I saw it here. That has all gone now. I have my Fenders and I will continue to enjoy playing them, but I shan't be buying another now (there were several on my bucket list) and this slap in the face has done nothing but encourage me to look elsewhere.

:D  I’m cranking up your score to the 11, Marky.

The world is changing. Vinyl is back in a big way. Mustang cars are electric, and now this unique Forum is breaking up like the Beatles? Whoo boy!

566,184 members plus untold readers worldwide.

Hmmm. That value says sumpin’, Fender.

Just sayin’.

I, too, am rarely active on social media, and nothing that Fender puts out on Facebook or Instagram or whatever will be a replacement for the wealth of info and the camaraderie that this forum has provided. It's a real shame that it is disappearing. Hoping that the years of accumulated activity will at least be archived somewhere for reference.

Again, goodbye and best wishes to all the people whom I've interacted with and gotten to know here over the years. As Douglas Adams might have said, "so long and thanks for all the fish!"

Greetings Ya'll:

We've shared the best and the worst of times in these pages. We've been part of an incredibly talented and diverse group. It's been a truly human experience. There ARE Fender-related pages on Facebook. I currently enjoy the privilege of being friended by several Forum Mates. If you wish to maintain these ties you can find me on FB as Arnold Rosenstock. Ave atque vale! Stay safe, be well, and may you live long and prosper.

Welp, this is a bit of a shock. It's been a pleasure knowing all of you, but it's true that the forum is a ghost town compared to what it used to be. Still, I will miss just knowing that the forum is here when I want to drop in. I'm feeling a bit misty-eyed...best to everyone.

A Mom and Pop store told me years ago that FMIC has a volume minimum which a dealer must be able to meet in order to carry the line.

I bought two, back in the day. One remains in its original plastic bag. Pity we could never agree on that guitar we wanted to build. Rebecca [aka texasguitarslinger] will have her Forumcaster as a memento of this time.
