Any Beatles fans here? Haha haha. That’s a good one. I’m killin’ myself ROTFL snicker.  For those who are you'll want to read this:

In 1964, while I still had two years of high school left on the west coast, the Beatles’ first landing in North America happened here in Winnipeg. The following is a short clip from the station I spent 10 years with from 1966 alongside the announcer on the video Bob Burns who had a short stint with the Guess Who as manager (which did not pair up well in the end after the Winnipeg band toured England). A better quality, but shorter interview, was available but the content is better in this version:

Although, I’m not the biggest Beatles fan by far, I do like George Harrison, psychedelic music, appreciate their talent and contribution, and music history of all types overall. It could have been pop, oldies or progressive rock, country, jazz, classical, or what have you, however, it is the history of the Beatles that grabbed my attention yesterday.

Many music history books and articles and recordings of music history have and still do come from those who rubbed shoulders from this town. There is always a search for things like old Guess Who lost tapes (totally unforgotten by the members’ unreleased stuff showed up in a garage in the last couple of years) and other unrelated articles. Some of these goodies include oldies from visiting artists and performers from both sides of the border since Winnipeg is a central location in North America and played an instrumental part with music of the 60s and into the early 70s both in recording and promoting facilities.

Yesterday, a relative dropped off a great two page newspaper article telling the story of twelve 50 year old identifiable 10 inch reel to reel radio broadcast tapes recovered from a defunct Milwaukee radio station. Those magnetic recordings had been, long story short, produced in Toronto, Ontario (CHUM Radio) with the help of an engineer from Winnipeg who tracked them down, thanks to the effort of the Milwaukee radio employee, to air them again in Winnipeg (almost 50 years to the original broadcast) on a volunteer nostalgic radio station here where the old jocks share their experience, collections, and history.

I too have typically identical re-recorded broadcast reels, and because the tapes were expensive both then ($70 each in 1970) and even more under today’s value they were usually erased for reuse. So, the much talked about recoveries were a treat. These new found half a century old tapes were sticky and with thorough calculated baking, dehydration, and careful wiping multiple times, the audio was successfully recovered, digitized, and copyrights were considered to the point where over 12 hours of enjoyment will be shared to a grateful waiting audience over the next few weekends.

Included are interviews from BBC and elsewhere where missing parts were regathered to edit in missing or damaged audio. The pair involved in the process were from CKY radio, the same station as my TV company and the one with the previous video above.

You got it!. The 12 hour show is all about the Beatles. More famous Beatles tapes. :D

Saturday, February 29. 2020 the first of these tapes aired with related hosting; but, continues on 93.7 FM CJUN Nostalgia Radio Winnipeg for the next five Saturdays said to be at 6pm Winnipeg time. Perhaps, you’ll find a way to receive it.

Now ya know. 8)

Paul McCartney still shows up here from time to time and has even shared bike trails with the locals.

Interesting and thanks for sharing, FSB!

Is there a better source for web streaming than this?

You’re very welcome, Mike.

That’s a great question,. Thanks, for adding the link, To be honest I can’t say since I get it on my tuner and I haven’t tried any other source. It’s worth a search. If I find another I’ll let you know,

There’s a ton of radio apps, and some are dedicated with smart TVs. I’ll take a look around, and if I can help out locally I’ll try to post it.

I have some ideas if they work out. The non profit station is limited by government standards and regulations so I’m not sure how that plays out or even if there are concerns,

CJNU has a mix of music for every one, not to everyone’s liking such as 30s and 40s, but, some really good rock and surprising surf too (Including local). You never know who’ll turn up. It might even be Randy Bachman or Cummings by association; although, they are more geared for CBC on a more regular basis.

Check this easy link. Scroll to “Webcast” and left of it tap “Listen Live “. :D

You really hit a couple of buttons with me. Two of my more favorite bands. The Beatles, and the Guess Who.
