As I have mentioned in a couple of different threads I am just now starting to gather everything I need to experiment with recording.
I'm looking for some sources for some FREE drum, keyboard, bass, guitar, etc. loops for recording.

There's a program called "Audacity" that you can download that can record stuff either through a mic or directly through your computer with the use of a line-in cable. Not only that, using the line-in cable, you can use your iPod or video camera to record things to Audacity just the same.

My father has also mentioned the ability to take out particular parts, such as the drums, bass, etc. However, I haven't done much experimenting with that yet. I figure you could probably get some information from the web for that.

And Audacity is free to download. Can't get much better, huh? :)

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

There's the link, hope its of help to you. :D

I already have Audacity and that is just one part of the total picture.
Audacity does not have loops in it, you still have to import them from somewhere.

There's a program you can download with Audacity, I think its called "Libmp3lame" or something like that. You can convert your Audacity files to MP3's. I like to do that and burn them onto my iTunes Library (which is where I get a lot of my music now days). And iTunes has a looping option, but it starts looping before the song even ends, so that kind of creates a problem. :?

That also reminds me, a (40-year-old) friend of mine has a program called, I think he called it, "Band in a Box" and could record particular parts of a song. I've never tried it myself, but he says its a fairly accurate program...

Sony acid pro has some good loops. There used to be a program called Fruity Loops that was pretty good, now it's called FL studio, I believe.

There are some free wav files that can be used to for loops also :

http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Sounds/Free_WAVs/

With Audacity, you can load a wav file, then stretch it, move it, add to it and use the LAME encoder to export as mp3 files.

If you have the Streetwater Gear Encyclopedia, there are several good, but not free, software packages dedicated to just loops, priced from $49 and up.

Did you get your first issue of Tape Op yet?

There used to be a few good resources on the web (I've been working with Acid for almost 10 years), but the only bookmark I have that still seems to work is http://www.samplenet.co.uk/ . You may be able to find some usable items there. A Google search for "Free Loops" spits out a few results, if you want to check those out.

For free loops, consider the following:
http://www.bluesblast.com/jams2003.html

Sorry for introducing the specter of non-free loops, but at some point you may want to consider something like the Boss recorders. I have a BR micro and it has programmable drum patterns. It comes with a lot of patterns built in, and you can arrange them so that you can combine several of them to get the drum music you want for the duration of the song. You're not stuck with a single pattern. Their higher-end models also let you program bass.

I got my BR micro just for recording myself to keep a record of my progress, and also to check whether my tempo is good while learning a song. It's turned out to be much more important to me than that. It has become one of those "how did I ever live without this?" tools.

I tried Audacity. I like the features of a dedicated recorder.

If you wanted to invest a c-note, there is a very good software app called "Sequel" made by Steinberg (CuBase, Nuendo, etc..).

It features over 5,000 very high quality loops and is designed to not overwhelm new users. The included loops, instruments and effects provide all the "tools" you need to take a project from conception to completion.

I first heard about this through Tape Op, where it got rave reviews.

If you use ACID Music Studio you're probably already aware of ACIDplanet.com. They publish an "8-pack" of loops every Friday, but I imagine you're looking for a bigger variety. Still it's worth checking out.
