So, I bought one of these 68 Custom Princeton Reverb amps in Surf Green about 3 weeks ago.
Love it. Sounds beautiful, Looks very nice.
Only one problem I don't understand.. I bought this mostly as an investment. Just the same. I am going to play the heck out of it at home. I'm 68 so I don't gig.
When I bought this amp the ad stated there were only 204 being made world wide. That's mostly why I bought it..
I contacted Fender with my serial number off the amp wanting to know which amp I had of the 204 amps built.
There replied was.. All these amps have the same serial number. We can not tell you which one you have because of this... PLUS as of this time we have built over 450 of these amps. SO FAR...
Isn't this wrong to state only 204 ever being built world wide ? They wanted to know where I saw this ad. It is all over the internet with many of the dealers stating the 204 built thing...Go to Reverb.com. or just type in the amp for sale on the internet.
What does everyone think on this.
I just want everyone to know about this...

Hi GarlicFarmer. I replied to your first post and after reading this one I will have to look for the advert referring to the number made to see if it is an error from Fender or whomever is selling the amp. As far as amp investments go you can not do much better than a Princeton no matter what the circumstance.

When you ultimately sell your 68 Custom Princeton Reverb you'll be fortunate indeed if you even recoup your initial cost.

If you wanted an "investment-grade" amp you should've bought a vintage Princeton Reverb.

As for ad hype, only a fool puts any stock in what marketing droids dream up.

The first video I find on YouTube states that there are only 204 being made, I'd call that pretty deceiving. When I hear a review on a product I want the information to be accurate so that I know what I'm buying.

Sorry to hear of your experience GarlicFarmer. Still, a beautiful looking and great sounding amp all the same. Enjoy!

With my experience making commercials I know that, although it can happen, misleading advertisements are closely watched for and listened for on broadcasting (at least in this country), and records for government are kept and reviewed on a regular basis. Pretty common in other countries too. Print not so much, and errors exist usually between client and agencies. Word of mouth . . . well, we know how that works.

I needn’t tell you how information from one source, including the marketing or technical department of a corporation, can and does receive and distribute incorrect information. Sometimes internally and sometimes externally. It shouldn’t happen, but in reality it does without possible disclaimers. Ask any old codger that ordered a car only to be told the options listed don’t or no longer relate. Everything from brochures to websites and in between are vulnerable.

Here’s a related example of how things such as musical instrument details can get confusing, but first:

The above Limited Edition Joe Bonamassa ES-355 Standard Outfit is not to be confused with the same guitar below with his signature in pearloid inlay on the fret board reported to be found on only 300 models which were only available from Joe’s site.

The confusion increases in that they are both Limited Editions, and some dealers have headlines listing them as such. Some have not, and the model shown above is often listed as just standard. Still others call them (either one or both) as signature models.

https://guitar.com/news/is-epiphone-rel ... ature-335/

Whatever one calls them they are the same build guitar but the one with the inlay - with one exception not completely! Oh, and one other thing, Joe’s own version is a Gibby said to be with a Richlite board not an Epiphone with Ebony.

When in doubt, best bet is to go with the model number, except when that doesn’t work. Long story short, no biggie but I just got different XLR connectors on a mic cable from a repeat order.
