Crocs are so ugly they should be illegal and those who wear them should be beaten thoroughly.

I wear skateboarding shoes. Comfortable and skate-able.

Lakai Recycled Edition, to be more specific. They are sixty bucks for a one of a kind shoe that uses random leftover materials from the company. Every pair will be different. Mine are yellow, black, and green. The model they use is blue, tan, grey, and green. They are freakin' sweet.

I wore western boots when I was younger when I moved away from home I started wearing casual loafers and have been very satisfied with them. I do wear athletics shoes when participating in athletics.

I have a pair of the offroad kind that are green with bright orange straps. They certainly make a statement. However, when you are in a tent and have to get up in the middle of the night because you're an old guy, they slip on easy.

My main footwear outside of work are a pair of teva sandals, but I also have both stars and bars converse and plaid ones as well. Sometimes, just regular sneakers will do.

I also have many odd cycling sox. Flames, bikes, sharks, hot peppers, well, you get the idea.

Being in Florida... my #1 choice is bare feet, when the pavement is hot it's my Ecco sandals, and Teva shoes for work.

These days I wear sneakers quite a bit, but also wear shoes on occasion and once in a while a pair of boots (kinda like the plain, black 60's Beatle boots) but not as pointy.

'Tend to be occasion-driven and varied re shoes.

A different pair of leather business shoes each week-workday, repeat pairs every 2 weeks.

Casual, seasonal; Dr. Martens, boat shoes, penny loafers, engineer boots

At facilities which rrequire them, safety shoes

For athletic activities only, athletic shoes

For fancy occasions, patents

Around the house in summer, barefoot or 35 year-old tire-soled sandals

Apparently, (so far) I am the only one who wears a basic western-style pair of boots..... always have & always will. Matter of fact, boots are all I ever wear. (on my feet w/ socks) They look good with a pair of jeans OR a tux and everything in between. IMHO, you can't say that about any other footwear; NOTHING looks dumber than sneakers or sandals with a suit, assuming you even own a suit to wear at classy events, LOL (which also assumes you'd get invited.... hehehe)
To me, a nice black (or grey) pair of boots (western or shorter top 'Beatle' style) ARE class. Besides..... I hate having to kneel down & diddle with strings I can't tune. hahahaha

IMHO (again).... when performing, if you aren't the 'hottest' dressed in the place, something's wrong. As was 'grunge', if you are the worst-dressed in the place... more power to you. At least look as if you took a bath recently and brushed your teeth.... LOL

When I worked for a talent agent (pt) and helped him out by going to see (& hear) bands that wanted to get bookings, some didn't look any different in their garage or at a practice hall then they did on stage. Wearing the same duds to perform in that you'd wear to take garbage to a dump, work on your car or to paint in, (to me) just screams "no class" & "no self pride"..... BUT no matter what you wear, at least make sure it's clean. Basically, the message you could send by 'dressing down' is: "I don't give a crap..... about you (the audience), me or my equipment."

I've heard every excuse there is and then some.....

"I do this for fun and I want to be comfortable...."

"I'm playing to an audience that only cares about the sound(s) we make...."

"It's the music, man..... this ain't no fashion show....."

On & on......oh well..... to each their own. I'd guess the only time everyone would agree might be a gig at NUDESTOCK! :P

I've been wearing the same pair of New Balance running shoes for 5 years now. When the soles are gone I'll get another pair. Suckers are comfortable.

I voted for sandals but if not wearing them it's either running shoes or my cowboy boots!
