Wow, I wasn't expecting this! I didn't even know he had brain cancer, and it's the 4th anniversary of the day David Bowie died. RIP, Neil. You were one hell of a drummer. :(

I just heard the news. I feel terrible for Neil’s family, friends, and fans.

My brother passed suddenly from brain cancer three years ago at 62. I learned a lot by being with him in his final days, Gord Downie (Canada’s Tragically Hip singer-songwriter and activist) was also struck down by this terrible disease. I won’t make judgment about the different causes, but based on more media coverage and more activity with wireless, especially smart phones today, my contacts, observations, experience, and reading questionable studies, without being fanatical, long story short, I chose to use a speaker phone and/or change listening sides when I can. No proof of it being safer, but it can’t hurt. IMHO I hope Neil had the smoothest sailing as the rough waters would allow. I know it can be turbulent; but, I also know Neil had plenty of help and support to make that journey and difficult passage.

There are rock drummers and then there are rock percussionists that expand their circle of knowledge and skill outside of their chosen genre. Neil, you sir were both, and to be called Buddy Rich’s favourite drummer (even though he was a big band giant) . . . well, that says it all. Thanks, for your share of 1000 plus drum rudiments. Thanks, for your style and performances.

You may be gone, however, I have a feeling Traps will be waiting for you at the Pearly Gates.

FSB

Thanks, Chris for the thread and the link.

I was shocked to hear of the passing of Neil. I hope someone will write a fitting tribute, good bye, as Neil wrote, “Louder Than God”: Rush’s Neil Peart Remembers Blue Cheer’s Dickie Peterson. RIP Neil.

what a sad day...I have been a big fan of rush since I saw them in the 70's. until I saw a few documentaries on them, I had no idea that neil was anything more than a great drummer. his brilliant lyrics, along with the trios superb musicianship, made a rock band that has no comparison. I know he lost his daughter and his wife in a short period of time, and that had to be very tough.

he came across in the interviews he did as a kind of shy person. he seemed like all he wanted to do was play music, so it doesn't surprise me that he didn't talk about it.

thanks neil-your music will always be a big part of my life.

I've had a non-Hodgkin Burkitt-B type of lymphoma yesteryear and successfully passed 6 cycles of RCHOP chemo. This was a very sad experience though as the whole process required a painful lymph node biopsy and 6 months of illness due to side effects. Currently I'm into a 5-year remission with the hope this damned cancer never return.

Ya got my vote.

Glad you have the upper hand on that demon. Looks like that tough road you took is paying off and you are setting a fine example that it is possible, under early diagnosis and in many cases if the conditions are met, to win the battle amongst the war. Here’s wishing you the best trooper.

Thanks for the kudos but I wasn't alone.

My mother had suffered from a pneumonic embolism last March and it's a miracle we've both survived from those diseases. Without the help of caregivers and nurses we were no longer in this world.

Chromeface,

Both of you keep strong!
I had my own battle with cancer a couple of decades ago, and since then I have fathered a son, who is a fine young man and musician.

My best wishes for you and your mother.
