Jon Anderson of YES. There's some really powerful, orchestral stuff there.

I would go with Kurt Cobain's final moments in "Where did you sleep last night?" A very haunting interpretation of a great Leadbelly song.

The way he opens his eyes and then closes them = very haunting.

Janis Joplin's voice always makes me choke up, especially the song "Piece of My Heart."

As for Freddie Mercury (one of my all-time favorites), I'll see your "Bohemian Rhapsody" and raise you a "The Show Must Go On."

Probably Roger Daltry in Wont get fooled again
or
Joey Ramone in Chasing the night or Lifes a gas- songs with very few lyrics but I think he works wonders with them. I think the thing about Joey was that he could sing anything from slow soppy stuff to hardcore

"Cleaning my Gun" - Chris Cornell.

Cornell hasn't released this one on an album...yet (i can only hope). I saw him in Reading, PA about a year ago and he played this acoustic song he wrote for Johnny Cash, who refused to sing it b/c he said it was too difficult. He told everyone he forgot about that song until that moment, which was the last acoustic song of the set.

Anyway, I still get chills thinking about it.

Good choice! Three Dog Night did a decent redition of that one, also -- Chuck Negron doing the lead.

almost anything Queen vocals are amazing
Under the Bridge and My Friends by RHCP (Anthony Kiedis) He's more of a rap-funk singer, but his voice is beautiful is those songs.
