To coincide with my Emotional Instrumental thread, what are some of your favorite vocal moments in a song? You know the ones, the first time you heard it, it sent chills down your spine at how amazing it fit into the song.

The first in my list is from a song called Showbiz. It's the title track to Muse's first album. The song is pretty decent, but the falsetto at the end gave me shivers the first time I heard it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYfnf6ydcb0 (starting about 3:50 and capped off with the best at about 4:17) Actually, I could use a lot of muse, but I won't bore you since it's quite obvious I enjoy them (but do see the last 2:50 of Knights of Cydonia, it's amazing both vocally and instrumentally)

I've always been fond of Pink Floyd's Brain Damage as well. The last part of the song with what sounds to be a woman backing is amazing.

Radiohead's You and Whose Army is great as well. The part around 2:00 (we ride tonight......) is so emotional.

I'll list more later, but feel free to share your favorites.

Elvis Presley did a trio of songs he called "An American Trilogy". I don't remember the titles of the 3 songs.

Bat out of Hell by Meat Loaf got pretty epic with the vocals...especially live where they call in like two other vocalists to sing along.

"I don't wanna go down to the basement" by the Ramones. The lyrics and delivery are a perfect fit.

What did you expect, a Creed song?

In the late 80's I met Eddie Hinton, a session guitarist from the Muscle Shoals area, who had very powerful vocals as well. I've always thought that if he were still alive, that he might have got a lot more recognition for his work.

God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood did it for me the first time I heard it.
I also got goosebumps from Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues way back when.

I would go with Kurt Cobain's final moments in "Where did you sleep last night?" A very haunting interpretation of a great Leadbelly song.

Roger Daltrey / Who - "Won't Get Fooled Again"

Todd Rundgren - "Death of Rock and Roll", "Out of Control"
Technically not the greatest singer, but sings with passion and conviction.

Rachel Fury... She was on stage about 20 feet in front of me at a Pink Floyd concert in 1988... I've been in love ever since.

Here's a halfway decent video of what I'm talking about. But NOTHING compares to that voice live... it goes right through you.
