Anyone have any good stories?

This was inspired by an event today. I was at a friend's basement and his clock was blinking from the power being out. I went to go change it and saw a snake on top the clock. It was still for a while so I asked jokingly, "Is that one of those fake plastic snakes that are just there to scare people?"

He didn't hear me, so I assumed it was being that he is a jokester. I got about 4 inches from the clock and it stuck its tongue out and got in a defensive position. Needless to say, I jumped and run away ASAP as did my friend when he realized what was going on. His dad came down and got it, but it was a nice 2 foot long snake (not sure what variety, but I'm not too fond of snakes.)

So, any other stories involving animals you want to share? I know mine wasn't the most deadly of encounters  but it shocked me nonetheless.

Phuket Thailand - 1984

Me and some friends are partying on the beach in Thailand. One of my friends and I decide we need to take a walk so we head into the jungle. We're quite wasted. We get a ways in and we find a baby cow (water buffalo). We decide that the baby cow (water buffalo) was obviously put there for our entertainment, so we head towards it to see if we can pet it. What we don't notice is that we've positioned ourselves between the baby cow (water buffalo) and it's much larger and less friendly mother cow (water buffalo). We're almost to the baby cow (water buffalo) when we hear some crashing and snorting. Suddenly the chase is on. Me and my buddy are laughing like a couple of insane idiots as we run like hell from a pissed off mother cow (water buffalo). All our friends on the beach see is a couple of well toasted morons screaming like maniacs come bursting out of the jungle. We told them about the baby cow and momma cow (water buffalo's). They saw nothing and never did believe us.

I had a friend in college that took in an adult python. A few years later with zero problems he noticed that it stopped eating for a week. He called a vet and was told to just keep food around for it when it was ready to eat. It didn't seem like a big deal. Three nights later his girlfriend wakes him up at 3:30 in the morning and points to the snake inbetween them on the bed, laid out stiff like a giant baseball bat. He calls the vet right away. The vets tells him to get himself and the girlfriend out of the house right away and call animal control to come and kill the snake immediately. The snake was "measuring." It was going to eat the smaller of the two and had been starving itself to prepare for a big meal.

Driving along a side road in South Dakota, we were rounding a corner at about 25 miles an hour. Just as we reached the apex and passed a huge rock, we looked out the right side window of the car and realized that there was a buffalo grazing behind the rock . . . about 10 feet from us!

Wow. And I thought my story was mildly frightening.

About twenty years ago we had two cats, a big one and a small one. So I had to refresh the litter box everyday. Then one day we had a hole day out with friends and by 10h00 pm I was beginning to feel exausted and all I had in my mind was my bed. I just wanted a good long night sleep. We left the place around 11h30 pm and I drove the 40 kilometers back home, another 20 minutes toll before I can get to bed. At last... home..., I ran the stairs to the third floor, unlock the door, get in and like a zombie started to undress but before I could jump in the bed I had to take a pee. At night, I had the habit to enter the toilet room without turning on the light because it was never so dark and the litter box was out of the way... usually... I thought. That day, there must have been a cat fight and as a result of that the litter box was moved so slightly toward the sink. I stepped on the corner of the litter box and it acted like a lever or a catapult and projected all of the full one day content of the litter box in the air. Still in the dark, and feeling something moving under my foot, I realized what was going on, I shuffled on the side and loosing my balance I stretched my arms in front of me to catch my fall, only to find myself on my knees (hurting from the little rocks of the litter) and with my left arm all wet at the bottom of the toilet bowl. I heard my wife asking “what’s going on?” “nothing dear, I’m just refreshing myself a bit before bed”. She was not as tired as me and I thought to myself, well if I let her see that mess I am going to have some explaining to do and then another delay before bed and I was exhausted. So quick, quick, I turned on the light and scooped all the mess, poop, litter , water, everything. A fast cleaning, new litter in the box, and finally I’m ready for the bed. Entering our room, I faced a “what took you so long? I need to use the bathhroom too”. As soon as she got out of the room, I slipped under the bedsheet, closed my eyes and just waited to fall asleep... After a short time, my wife came back, got under the bedsheet too, turned off the light, kissed good night, and at last I could let myself fall asleep. A few seconds later, she asked me “So I wonder if the cats had a fight today?” “Why would you say that? I asked. “well there was a little water on the toilet seat”. “Might not be a fight at all, maybe the big cat wanted to play with the water”. “OK good night” “Night”. A bit later, “And I also found a small litter rock on the sink counter do you think they had a fight?” “Well maybe the big cat had problems with the litter and left a rock here and there, good night” “Night”. A bit later, “I really wonder if they had a fight?” She said. Then I broke down and said “listen, believe it or not here’s what happened” and I told her the whole story, thinking to myself at last I’ll be able to go to sleep. She said “ Well that explains the water and the rocks, you could have called me to help you”. “Well I just wanted the hole story to go away fast so I could get some sleep”. “OK then good night” “Night”. A bit later, she starts giggling. So I start giggling too. Soon it degenerates and we’re laughing ourselves to death and it took more than an hour to calm down enough to finally fall asleep. .Even today we try not to remind that event before going to sleep. True story from a to z. Have fun.

I own 13 acres 2 miles into the woods on a logging road. I`m surrounded by 4000 acres of logging land and its full of wildlife. I have a black bear living on the back of my property that has been estimated at around 450 lbs. A few years ago I had a few friends come up after they got off from work. They were hungry and decided to BBQ a few burgers with bacon which I told them not to do because it was around midnight. The smell of the food cooking was like ringing the dinner bell. This bear must have figured the diner was open and stopped by for a quick meal. He let out 2 loud growls from about 100 feet away, you should have seen the faces on these guys. I thought I was watching the 3 Stooges, their hair stood up and they ran for the cabin. I had a shotgun close by but it never came to that. I was laughing so hard cause they set up a tent to " sleep under the stars ". If you saw them rip their air matress out of the tent and bring it inside you would have thought they were in an air raid. We still laugh when we bring that story up but I`m glad no one was hurt. Funny memory from the campfire...

There's a chance that no one will believe this, but it's true, so here it goes:

My wife and I were fishing in a small boat on a lake near Mt. St. Helens. We hadn't seen any fish all day, but finally I caught about a 6 inch trout. I was digging around in the boat to find my pliers to let it go when I heard a really loud wind-type sound. I looked up and my wife was pale and slouching down in the boat and looking at something behind me.

When I turned around there was a bald eagle with about a 4 foot wing span coming straight at me. He had his wings spread and talons out and was about 10 feet in front of the boat.

The eagle zipped right up next to our boat (about 3 feet from my head) and took off with my fish, fly and line still attached. I was able to put pressure on the line so that the leader broke off before he took all the line.

It was wild. Seriously, the eagle was so close that I remember what he smelled like...

well i don't have too many animal experiences that are noteworthy, but here's one:

SO I was at my friends house alone, waiting for her dad to come home from dropping her off at karate. So i was sitting on the couch and then i saw her cat on top of the staircase, and only her head was visible. Because she is so wild and hisses and scratches evrybody, i was hissing at her from the bottom of the stairs. This was fun at first. I got louder and climbed one step, on all fours. Then coming from cowaring away at the top, the cat hissed and charged at me! Oh ****! I ran on top of the couch, keeping a weary eye on the cat, but she just cooled off and then did whatever. The lesson? never **** with a cat that doesn't like you!!!

P.S. when the cat was younger, she loved everyone and let me pet her and pick her up. Since i didn't see her that much since then, she forgot me and hated me like everyone else. :(

OH and i have to run from yellow jacks all the time. I was eating an italian sausage yesterday, and i felt something land on my finger. I looked, it as a yellow jack. I threw up the plate, sausage in the other hand, and ran for about 40 yards. I have this irrational fear. I don't mind jellyfish and snakes though.

I was walking to school in the 8th grade one afternoon, and this giant rotweiler just came walking down an old guy's driveway. It looked at me and I stopped in my tracks. I was thinking, "Okay...giant dog...off leash...staring at me..." Then it started coming at me and barking and I was scared. I kept running down the sidewalk and eventually it just stopped chasing me. I was outrunning it, so I guess it must have been an old, worn-out dog. But it did manage to bite my hand and it turned all green.

Nasty.

A few months back, I was out wade fishing with a buddy. We were in water that was about waist deep and the area is known to have sharks roaming the flat. We were about 2 feet from each other and working a "pothole" holding some nice reds. I went to move a little to my left, away from my buddy, and simultaneously something big hit my leg and the water exploded. I sprang up out of the water and almost jumped up on my friends shoulders. He is laughing uncontrolably at me cause I was soaking wet and cussing up a storm. It ended up being a manatee. That scared me pretty good.

I was staying at a Major Brand hotel, I put my bag on the floor , opened it and left it there for a day before unpacking. I unpacked the suitcase, and kept my folded shirts together and put them on the rack(about 6 ft off the floor) I got in the shower and when I got out I went to the rack and pulled one of the shirts off the rack. I was staring face to face with an 18" Rattle snake! I called the front desk after nearly S@#$%^&& myself. I told the lady there was a rattlesnake in my room. She says "yeah right" The impatience of my voice must have clued her in to the seriousness of the situation. I got the snake out of the room(with no help from management)
I returned to the hotel in the morning after work, and noticed most of the hotel doors were opened(mine included)while housekeeping was cleaning the rooms. The snake must have crawled in the open door the day before and got in between my shirts. Just glad it didnt get in bed with me!
