What are some of your favorite pieces that have no lyrics, yet convey so much emotion? People often look at me like I'm crazy when I say an instrumental is emotional, but then again, they're the same one's that think generic rap is lyrical genius. It can be whole songs, or simply instrumental sections.

For me, I think a lot of Buckethead stuff is pretty emotional. Songs like Whitewash (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8akmP6Sjv2o) and Soothsayer both have some great guitar which seem pretty emotional. Muse's Forced In when played live always gives me chills. It's so simple and somber (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOFZ0cSXbgU). I'm quite fond of the second half of Clapton's Layla as well. Also add Little Wing intro to the list for me I suppose.

So, what are your favorite "emotional" instrumentals?

Bullet For My Valentines' "Hearts Burst to Fire" is pretty emotianol when there are no words, and it's just an incredibly good song.

Pipeline and misirlou.
No other instumentalist conveys as much passion as dickie dale and you can dance to it too, not true of the majority of instrumental pieces.
You wouldnt want to see me dance to it though.

I don't know how emotional it is..........but it's very pretty.

"Sleepwalk", which came out in the early 60's. Brian Setzer now does a great version of it.

A band I was in.....in the 60's did it......and it was always a big hit. I now play it with a friend of mine.

I can't remember who did it. I thought it might be the Ventures, but I looked at all their CD's and could find "Sleepwalk".

I cry every time I hear Metallica's version of "Extacy of Gold."

Because they ruined it.

Sleep Walk" is an instrumental steel guitar-based song recorded and released in 1959 by Santo & Johnny. The song was composed by brothers Santo and Johnny Farina. (The original single credits three Farinas, including an "A. Farina" for the composition. It's sometimes reported that their mother or sister helped, but this is apparently false.[1]) It was recorded at at Trinity Music in Manhattan. "Sleep Walk" entered Billboard's 'Top 40' on August 17th, 1959. It rose to the No. 1 position for two weeks in September (the 21st and the 28th)[2] and remained in the 'Top 40' list until November 9th. It was the last instrumental to hit #1 in the 1950s and earned Santo & Johnny a gold record.

Another vote for Sleepwalk by Brian Setzer!

Joe Satriani and Larry Carlton have also done excellent versions of it.
