So, I recently reviewed the history of Fender and noticed that during the CBS sale to Schultz, CBS refused to sell bodies, necks and the Fullerton factory, and that all production was set in Japan.
So how did so many 1984-1988 instuments got into the market then? Were those bodies and necks then sold? I've looked for this info online, but I could not find any reliable source.
Thanks

They didn't make as many guitars in 1984 as the previous year, they were laying off employees(800 down to about 100) and closing down lines of supply.
They didn't make guitars after 1985 @ Fullerton as it shut down completely by February. What remained as far as parts/necks/body's etc was stored in a warehouse until late 85. Corona was established in October 85 and they made about 10 guitars a day- only AVRI models. They continued to build a production line and source materials and redesign the Fender Stratocaster throughout 1986.
From 1986-1988 they were in the new Corona facility and making the new American Standards starting in 1987.

As far as I know Fender has never officially released production numbers except for LE/Anniversary type models. Fender serial # changes goes w/o saying, add in all the various model #'s and codes etc. and they are the only ones that actually know, the rest of us are just guessing.

The wealth of knowledge here from you sfceric64 and Arjay Whitedog FSB Steve and too many others to list has taught me more about Fender than all of my own research over this many years. Thank you all for being here.
