Buddy Holly’s Greatest Hits
(There was more. Much more; but, sadly, we’ll never know where his greats could have taken us).

Johnny Horton’s Greatest Hits
(All hands on deck to sink the Bismarck)

Ray Charles Greatest Hits
(Big band rock and soul)

Roy Orbison’s Greatest Hits
(Appearance and moves aside he was up there with Elvis).

Johnny Cash Greatest Hits
(Several volumes all worthy)

Jr. Walker and The All Stars Greatest Hits
(Classic groove)

Sly and the Family Stone Greatest Hits
(Git yer dancin’ shoes on)

Phil Spector’s Greatest Hits
(By the wacky music genius)

Motown’s Greatest Hits
(Any of ‘em especially with Funk Bros.)

Janis Joplin’s Greatest Hits
(Another lost too soon).

Carole King’s Greatest Hits
(‘Nuff said)

Bobbie Gentry Greatest Hits
(What’s with Billie Joe?)

Leonard Cohen Greatest Hits
(Sumpin’ different to tweak the senses)

I like most of the albums / songs in this thread (Great topic, Mike). I could have continued with more progressive and newer titles, and some great. However Greatest Hits sometimes mean they are the artists’ greatest or best and fall short for us IMHO or one or two good songs amongst the others. Great is a personal opinion or ratings driven at times. Even I can make a greatest album. Not much to sing about though. Really greatest means without a doubt. I’m werkin’ on it. I’m werkin’ on it. :P

For me personally, after looking at the thousands upon thousands of "Greatest Hits" albums out there...

My all time #1 favorite also has a "1" in the title:

THE BEATLES "1"

Great choices Ralph! I thought about it too but then every song on Jimi and the Experience albums is a greatest hit IMHO.

I kind of agree with that, Rollie, but Volume 2 was the first Hendrix album I ever bought. It totally blew my mind and turned me into an instant fanatic, so it has a special place in my heart. Also, at the time it was the only album that had Gloria on it, which was a masterpiece among among masterpieces.

I forgot to say thank you Ralph as I don't have those and they are now on my list for Santa. 8)
