September 26, 1969 was the date of The Beatles "Abbey Road" album in the UK. "Abbey Road" was released on October 1, 1969 in the U.S.A. It sure doesn't seem like 50 years ago. Oh Yeah!

They're coming out with the 50th anniversary edition of it in a few days, like they did with "Sgt. Pepper's" and the "White Album." I'm very curious to hear that. 8)

Has anyone acquired the "50th Abbey Road Anniversary" album yet?

I've seen the video for "Here Comes The Sun" today, but I haven't heard the rest yet.

An incredible song from Abbey Road. Thank you George Harrison for that song.

What a great album by a great group. Not all songs are equally good though. IMHO. Abbey Road was the last full set of recordings for an album that included all of the Fab Four. Most other album material that followed with the four Beatles was recorded before this release.

I wonder how many times Abbey Road has been photographed. My guess is that cellphone cameras increased that number by the thousands. :P

Sometimes, I've wondered whatever happened to that VW Beetle that was in the original album cover. Did it wind up in a junk yard, or is it still around and running?

That’s a good question, Paul. I wonder if the Abbey Road plain Jane VW has or had increased value. I know Lennon’s famous Rolls Royce sat before me, and afterwards (as mentioned elsewhere) my wife’s girlfriend modelled a wedding dress for a photo shoot with Sgt. Pepper’s wheels in the latter 80s. That was in Victoria, BC. Funny thing about creative paintwork like that flower power car. Photo wise it looks good, up close, not so great. Big difference from a seasoned auto body painter. Still, pretty cool. 8)

From what I saw about the VW, it was owned by a resident that lived across from the Abbey Road studio. The license plate was repeatedly stolen. The VW was sold at an auction in 1986, and is in a German museum.

The Abbey Road album cover was shot quickly. The photographer, Iain Macmillan, was on a step ladder, and was given 10 minutes to take the shot, because of the police holding back through traffic behind the latter. McCartney had sketched out the crossing shot that was to be photographed.

Great info. I knew about the photo shoot, but nothing of the car. Shows to go ya how value increases with a name and/or occasion. I have to find a celebrity shoot to get my car in the background and then it’ll be in Kijiji.

Good to know. It figures the license plate would have been ripped off. :P

I will say that would be cool to be able to record there some day.
