Can we get them grilled instead? :P

Seriously though, when they are talking about humidity shifts, the main problem I ever had was with rosewood fretboards shrinking in the winter, when it gets very cold and dry, and I had to file down the fret ends on a couple of basses with those. I never had an issue with maple boards doing that, though. That's cool that they at least offer a Jazz neck with those, and it does have a maple board on it.

You can order a build with a roasted neck in the Mod Shop. Even Leftys!

What affect does the roasted maple have on tone, if at all?

I recall a couple of years ago Fender offered a FSR with roasted maple but
now that you can buy the necks alone, I'm curious about the affect on tone.

You'll just have to slap one on and listen for yourself. My understanding is that the roasted neck is more stabile and therefore resistant to shifts in temperature & humidity. Extreme tonal consistency would be my expectation. How the tone might differ from traditional kiln dried maple is a good question, but I would expect the difference to be subtle just as any individual neck to another or any individual guitar to another. They are the same only different. The whole is always different from sum of the parts. It could be more, but it might be less. You can rest assured it will be different.

I get it about the stability of them but I was hoping someone who actually had
one of the older FSR models with one would chime in about the tone.

My wife and I went into town and visited a shop. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. We went up to him and I said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?" He just ignored us and continued writing the ticket.

I called him an "a**hole." He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn-out tires.

So my wife called him a "s*ithead." He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing more tickets.

This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. He finally finished, sneered at us and walked away. Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home.
