Like him or hate him, he can play AND sing!

....and now he's got a Fender Plexi Twin:

Gotta LOVE JoBo! Michael Rhodes, his bass player, is my fave. Whole band is Killer Diller.

Not sure who JoBo is, but I can already tell you I hate him...because that is the ugliest amp I've ever seen in my 52 1/2 years on this planet.
Just my opinion.

I dunno. I think it looks kinda cool. Looks like a ghetto blaster from a pawn shop. All that’s missing is a cassette deck. :P

Prince used 4 plexiglass cabinets, a plexiglass B3 and plexiglass Leslie!

I wonder how resonant Lucite is?

Great looking amp. Has to be 5000 + but it’s very nice. Tubes light up when it’s powered. Seen it yesterday on GOOGLE...

BIG difference, Mike. I don’t think a cassette deck would improve the stuff used with Prince.

There are a lot of great plexi/Lucite/acrylic speakers and cabs from small to gigantic. The Twin, a great amp as is, just doesn’t grab me as presented. Not terrible, but Bleh. Reminds me of a weekend quick fix project to replace a beaten up Tolex amp. Perhaps, it’s the frosted front or the typical hidden knobs which sidesteps the industrial appearance in this design , all of which defeats the purpose of having the plexiglass. The clear approach is most often used with high end gear because they are trying to promote the difference. I wanna see the guts including the knobs and whatnot and/or skookum lighting; otherwise, it might as well just be coloured plastic (although, transparent or fluorescent colour is cool). Speaking of guts, the better plexi designs take the appearance of the guts into consideration too. Everything doesn’t always have that ‘Wow’ look and, sometimes, reconfiguration is the order of the day. It’s the whole package.

Okay, here it is lit.

Because it’ll get scratched (could be the reason for the frosted look) maybe some well placed minimal engraved artwork or frosted design over a clear cabinet wall would be advantages for bling. Might as well recess a cup holder in there too (which is likely safer with knobs and switches up front) and, perhaps, add a cord/pick or what have you latchable holder.

Hey! Because it’s a Fender Twin I’d take it; but, only for that reason. I’m sure JoBo’s version will attract attention; but for me, I’ll pass on this one. I’ll wait for Version 2. YMMV

Indeed, especially without rectifier or power tubes.

And is that a ground lug hanging in the breeze?

Naw. It’s attached to a transparent screw. Good eye, vinyl.

I dig JoBo! Fantastic musician and he seems like a genuinely lovely human being. And I love that amp! It’s always fun to see an unconventional take on a traditional product.

I don't love him or hate him, it just seems like it's one more thing he can stick his name on. IMO he's a bit of a narcissist.

IMO, Brad does more for Fender than those clowns or Ethan Kaplan.

Meh.

Bono and the "Edge" On the Board of Directors? Seriously. I'm not impressed.

I owned an '80s MIJ Strat copy with a plexiglas body. It sounded fantastic. I've played a few other plexi guitars -- they all sounded good-to-great.

But they were all boat anchors that make '70s Norlins and CBS's feel lightweight.

I pity Joe's roadies. Slap that Plexi Twin into a roadcase and it probably weighs as much as a Hammond B3.

Plus, it's a very unforgiving material. I'm sure his roadies treat all his vintage gear delicately, but gloss plexi is in an entirely different league than wood covered with Tolex or tweed. Even bare wood amps with glossy furniture-type finishes are easier to keep looking good.

All good points, strayedstrater. I just sold an attachable plexi table from a relative’s wheelchair. Not a huge item, but heavy all the same. As for scratches, not such an easy fix if at all.

You mentioned plexi sounded “fantastic”. Does pretty good for video too. Speaking of a boat anchor, I and others had a waterproof underwater housing custom made for an industrial video camera. Looks to be about 2/3 the size of JoBo’s amp. Long story short, with or without the camera it was very heavy, and slid down and out of the water slide as planned. :P
