The distinctive tone, playability, classic look, the way it sits in a mix, & is heard on a stage.

It is an icon for many good reasons.

I chose a strat because I really like the way it sounds and it is the only guitar that I can get to sound just like I want it. My biggest inspiration John Frusciante also uses many Fender guitars and I really like the sound and the style he has.

For me it was the Fender Shortscales. I love the way they feel and play, I also love the shortscale "jangle". Plus I think the Jaguar is THE sexiest guitar ever made. 8)

I had a Gibson Les Paul, but listening to SRV, Hendrix, the stones, and many other artists, I came to appreciate the tone of a single coil pickup, as well as the Strat. I've owned three Strats now and I may purchase a Tele at some point. There is just something about the design of the guitar, how it feels, what it emotes that I can't really put into words. It's really perfect. Like the sound of a well trained operatic voice.

well growing up my older brother was really into nirvana. when i got into music i really liked the smashing pumpkins, weezer and green day. so if kurt, billy, rivers and billie joe all played them, i thought that would be a good choise for me.
actually, billy joe (gd) doesn't play fenders, he's lp junior dude.

I came from a different place then the Gibson/Fender thing...although I did have a bolt-on neck copy of a Les Paul (Global) when I was a kid.

I played 80's Kramers and Ibanez Jems/RGs from when I was a kid (1986-ish) until I hit my 30's, through heavily processed rigs. I dug Vai, Satch and EVH and wanted to play just like them. I certainly had the sound, but the technique...well, I did alright, but I'm no Vai. ;-) Tone wasn't exactly my forte....I had a good sound and it wasn't as distorted as some.

I've played some newer Fenders, but to be honest Fender necks felt awful to me...I was used to Ibanez Wizard necks with jumbo fretwire, and Fender necks felt too chunky, and...frankly...unpolished. Fender only recently got its fretboard quality together. Jumbo frets (or whatever Fender has been using) on a chunky neck wasn't good for me.

I had a couple hundred dollars to blow and a co-worker brought in a 1980's made-in-Japan Squier Stratocaster with it's tiny vintage frets and vintage neck radius. The second I laid my hands on it I knew I had to have it. The neck on that guitar feels so perfect...it's the standard I set all guitars against. New Fenders Stds are feel closer to this neck (other than the bigger frets) in quality. I took the guitar home and ran it through all of my crap gear at the time and noticed something...it sounded the same! All of my effects were making the guitar a moot point. So I removed them....the Strat sounded SO MUCH BETTER....the Ibanez sounded terrible.

Since then I have gravitated to Vintage Fender amps and all Fender guitars with single coil pickups only. I still like Vai and VH, but I no longer have the urge to play like them...I think I've finally developed by own sound and style....thanks to that goofy Strat. 8)

I've been playing for 29 years. In the beginning I played many guitars from many makers (Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Charvel, Jackson, Moser) looking for I don't know what. Through it all I kept getting rid of the others and coming back to Fenders (Strats in particular). I've been a confirmed Fenderman for at least the last 20 years. Fantastic functional timeless designs, they look great, and sound great. Most other guitar makers recognize Fenders superiority too. Almost every one of them makes copies of Strats and Teles.

I worked with a guy who had lots of kids so he was always selling his stuff to pay for his kids & at this time he had a american strat pluss deluxe with a fender hard shell case for around $250 or $300, I can't remmber it's been so long ago maybe 89 or 90, so that's how I got my first fender, I bought my mex tele standard bout 7 yr ago & this year I bought my mex 72 reissue thinline with 2 hummer pups, just to set the record straight I'll list the remainder of my 14 guitars
#4 a real 61 gibson SG white 2 hummer pups, lyre engraved tail piece & vibrola wammy bar, I've owend this guitar the longest.
#5 a gibson les paul special
#6 a epi. double neck sg
#7 a epi. pr 5 a mini les paul with one naked hot pup (my travler)
#8 a PRS custom 24 ( one of my fav's)
#9 a de armond arch top with 2 hummer pups single cutaway
#10 a de armond M75 T (BLUE SPARKEL)
#11 a kramer pacer (broken) head stock came unglued from the neck
#12 a washburn X11 got that free with my epi double neck
#13 a guild accustic dreadnot (old wood)
#14 a ibanez bass got that from my bass player JR (RIP)
and I just gave away my de armond starfire special to my neice
Tory Sparks, she's doing big things out of Nashvill you can check her out at Torisparks. com
Now we come to the part where I wish I had these guitars back, except for my ES 335 12 STRING I traded that for my PRS straight up.
I wish I had back my ES 335 dot, my Dan Armstromg (clear plastic)
and last but now way least my first SG I got when i was 12 yr. old, I sold that for a sears harmony when I was in my teens becaue the SG didn't have a wammy bar, STUPID SPARKY.
I'm sorry if I got off the beaten track

Beacause of Mark Knopfler way of playing the guitar and off course his red strat!
Because of Buddy Guy, because of the blues.

Moreover, I tried once a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, when i was a student.
I was barely able to play guitar, and felt the guitar was too heavy, not well balanced, and the neck was to small in width and to huge in height, I wasn't able to let my finger take well place over the frets.... I was disapointed!

I loved the sound of Les Paul.

Then came the American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster :)
the neck: good even if at first try i thought it was large...
the S1 switch: the sound could be punchier but not to punchy, way better than the humbucker found on Les Paul...
The body: solid and sexy :)
see the ad of the guitar, the movie :)

I didn't, I have a Gibson SG.. But I really wish I had a telecaster instead. I bought the SG at a time when my musical tastes were different than they are now. If I had to do it again I would choose a Telecaster though simply because it suits my type of music.

I had my Strat and Loved it for many Years, but I thought it was just a quality guitar, and I'd be just as happy with a Gibby or Jackson or whatever, as long as it was quality. A few years ago, the pick ups in my Strat gave up the ghost, So I figured I'll get me a Gibson and just take my time replacing the pick ups in the Strat. I got my Nighthawk and played it constantly for about two weeks. Then I started to go thrugh Strat Withdrawls. I started playing my Strat with the bad PUs in it, instead of my Gibby. So I Began Shopping for a new Strat Workhorse, and got my Blue Deluxe Players Strat, and now My Nighthawk is my Second Guitar, and I realized I'm a Fender Guy for life.

I still need to get to those pick ups on my first Strat.

I agree when i watch a jimi hendrix documentary i saw that guitar & two things happened

1. I was happy that i wasn't the only left-handed guitarist in the world

2. I wanted to play GUITAR!!!

It feels good, next to my body. The neck and fingerboard are such a perfect fit. And so smooth. And the sustain and the sound, and, and......
It just feels right. Strats are so sexy.

I love have always loved they way they look. A long time ago I played one in the shop and loved the way they play. It took my many years (and several "other" brands) to finaly get a true Fender Stratocaster. I love mine. The weight, the sound, the way it feels, Fender is one of the best low-priced guitars out there. :D

I started playing in high school but sold my guitar (black Gibson LP) when I went to college. Here it is 25 years later and I have decided to start playing again. I put a little money away each week and about a month ago, pulled the trigger on a 2008 MIA standard tele. I was committed to a budget of about $1,500 for guitar and amp. If I didn't like the way that guitar felt and sounded, I was in deep trouble because I LOVED the way it looked. That's why I chose Fender. It just sealed the deal with that silky neck and cool sound.
