1968??????????? I thought I was the only one older than dirt in here! Heck.........I graduated High School in 1968! Looks like I have a fellow dinosaur in here. (always pictured Miami Mike as "young")

Interesting question! I've wanted a Strat since I was in jr. high about 40 years ago. We idolized Hendrix and wanted to play like he did. When I got old enough to compare guitars, I was happy with my original choice.

Old farts with old guitars. You could probably buy a new car with something like that now.

I can't get a Strat or Tele to sound good to save my life, but I love me a good Jazz bass.

Do NOT get me started on Gibson! At least Fender gives a crap about it's quality control.

well it's nice to be around older musicians who respect the younger generation of fender players...

i chose fender (squier) for some reasons:

1. Hendrix played it (he's still jammin up there...)

2. it really spoke to me! i excluded all other guitars out of my price range and in the store it kept calling to me... play me... and when i did, i really could not say that i was holding a squier!! Seriously!!!

3. ALways obey rule number 1

4. it's 100 bucks and it rocks... but it doesn't sound so good when you say the price casually:)

-The Screamin' J FENDER LIVES ON!!!!!!!

I am a huge fan of EC and Knopfler, and they both play strats. I asked my guitar teacher (who plays a strat) about it and he told me to go ahead. So I got one.

Gentlemen if I may be so bold;

Strato-"...and probably still paid more for the LP..."

I'm not trying to start an argument and I hear what you're saying but there are reasons for everything. Whether they're valid or not. I can tell you my guitars are all worth every penny I paid for them, and then some.

riversitter-I may never own a Martin as the good ones are probably a bit further away than I care to reach, but there's no question about a fine one being as good as it gets. Don't have a Gretch...Yet. But you've displalyed great wisdom and this is for you.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk19 ... G_1317.jpg

(now don't everybody get all worked into a lather, the family's grown and a new portrait will be taken soon)

Syek- we're all as young as we feel. And our common interests here really help. Oh and by the way, what was the next movie John Wayne made after the one you reference in your signature quote?

Redmax- if you can't get a Strat or a Tele to sound good...you just need to try harder. Or re-evaluate your amp. And I also hear what you're saying about Gibson's QC. Seen it. Passed on an ES-135 that I fell in love with because of it. But I can also tell you it isn't always the case and I have proof. And I like to think they've realized that and taken a turn for the better. My next guitar will be a 355.

I originally fell in love with a stratocaster when I would watch Ritchie Blackmore play late at night on "Don Kirshner's Rock concert." listening to Deep Purple was like crack to me when I was a Kid... "Machine Head" is still one of my favorite albums, and that record is one of the grandpas of heavy metal!

I wanted a strat so bad, I worked all summer long at 13years old to get a guitar ... My first was a black Fender Mustang...(225 bucks & brand new!) I couldn't afford a strat until I was 21....now I have many!!!

pardon the off topic but have to tell allan I got a new copy of Machine Head last month, grew up watching Don Kirshners Rock Concert as well, and back then it wasn't called Metal, but Deep Purple, Sabbath, and Zeppelin.

Humm, gentlefolks, I graduated in 62. I'm sure that I'm not the oldest fart around here, but I'm a young 63 who will hit 64 in January.

I chose Squier and Fender gear because of the sound and the quality of the guitars. Plus, I've always wanted a Strat. Since I'm a re-beginner, I started with Squier, but several Fenders are still on my GAS list. A nice Fender Classic Series '50s or '60s Telecaster looks very nice and they sound nice - when I get a chance to actual handle them, I'll make up my mind.

I've played thru my next Fender purchase - a Super Champ XD, a very nice and tidy amp. It should be perfect for me.

Gil, the old one 8)

I chose the Telecaster because they have the that signature tone and the simplicity of the design appeals to me. Add the fact that Fender has a lock on quality maple necks in the industry.

My first guitar was a Korean made cherry red Epiphone "Strat". I loved the way it played, but couldn't afford the real deal. I did put in std strat pickups from my guitar teachers guitar after he upgraded to Tex-Mex. The guitar was super reliable and I didn't mind the occasional beer thrown my way since it wasn't that expensive (we used to play at a rough spot). Eventually a friend was a little too rough with it and broke the neck.
Fast forward 16 years, finally have a real job and can afford my dream guitar. Now just a few more pedals...
