Hello Fender Fourms,

My name is John Collenberger, drummer for Sürt {the destroyer}. I know, "who let this filthy drummer on the fourms!!1" Before I'm booted let me explain.

We played our first show on June 27th 2008 at the Livewire in Savannah GA. At around 3 a.m. on June 28th the two bass players in the band, Jason Statts and Dave Williams, were both shot outside of a friends house in an attempted robbery. The bullet passed through Jason's neck, damaging his C6 vertebra, then entered Dave's neck, slicing his esophagus and then lodged itself in the back of his neck. Dave is now out of the hospital and recovering at home. Jason is still paralyzed from the waist down with limited movement in his arms. He is at the Shepherd's Center in Atlanta GA., which is one of the best in the world for spinal cord rehabilitation.

Chip Ellis (EVH, Jackson, Charvel, Masterbuilder, gentleman, scholar, god among men) is an old friend of Jason's. When he heard about the shooting he notified us that he and Fender Guitars were building a Sürt bass guitar that would be put up for auction on Ebay. All proceeds will go to Dave and Jason's expenses incurred during their recovery process. I can speak for both of the guys and their families when I say we are really grateful to Chip and REALLY excited to see the results! He even mentioned shipping down to GA so the boys can put it through its paces before the auction.

We should be getting some pictures from Chip soon and I'll post them here when I get my hands on them. We are trying to get the word out about what will no doubt be one bad @#$ Chip Ellis masterpiece! Thanks again Chip and Fender for doing this for Dave and Jason, we love you guys!

For more info or to make a donation to the Statts/Williams Fund, go to http://www.stattswilliams.com/. You'll also find photos of the guys and video of the performance that night. Jason's wife Lyra has setup a blog to keep us informed about Jason's rehab here http://www.myspace.com/stattshimself.

Thanks,
John Collenberger

Here are the photos of the bass. As mentioned, this will be up for auction very soon on Ebay with all proceeds going to Jason Statts and Dave Williams as they continue their recovery. Thank you again Chip, his wife Mary (who has been keeping us updated) and Fender for one bad $@! bass guitar!

Way cool. Hope your friends make a full recovery. In my prayers for sure.

And hey man, this forum is better than kicking drummers off. You like Fender, we like Fender.

Any way, amazing bass, I got to say.
