Should I buy a Korean Tele if it has a plywood body and has been modified? There is a serial number VN306728, but no dates anywhere on body or neck. It doesn't say Squire on it and has a maple neck with skunk stripe. Electronics are changed from original. Is it still a goof tele or should I walk away. He wants $700 for it. It does have through body strings, a rear humbucker, and a custom paint job, and is in good shape otherwise. What should I do?

Wow... Korean + plywood = $700??? That doesn't seem to add up for me. I wouldn't walk away... I'd RUN.

N F W, repeat, November Foxtrot Whiskey

You are near double the cost of a real, genuine Fender Standard and in the price range approaching an American Standard

Just an opinion....

If you have to question yourself in anyway about a purchase, move on, any feelings that are more than buyer remorse, move on. So in this instance, walk away, move on to the next guitar you'd feel good about.

You could get a new American Standard Strat for 900, why spend 700 on a plywood guitar. When it comes down to it, color is secondary so don`t let the paint job on it sway your decision.
Get yourself a good guitar, Strats MIM are a way better choice than that guitar. I think the seller keeps his amp too high and its affecting his mind.

So what is the best tele for the money in the $800-$1000 range? Where is the best place to buy them? Guitar center has a store in town that has a lot of fenders. Also, have any of you ever tried the Vox amps that mimic all the other amps? They had a guy playing on one the other day that sounded great. What would be your pick in the $400 range? Thanks for all the help! I am new to this and appreciate the guidance.

I had one of the Vox's that you are talking about (valvetronix). I really didn't like it and the input jack stopped working almost right away. I swapped it for a Line 6 Spider because I wanted a headphone jack. The Line 6 is a decent amp, but is definately a practice amp.

In the $400 price range, I would say to look at the Fender Blues Junior.

American Standard Fender Telecasters are about $1000 (or around that). Also to add, both Mexican and American standards are made of alder. Plywood is what FIRST ACT guitars are made of, and is a cheap wood. Not only that, with being cheap, plywood is also low-quality.

You can get a First Act guitar/same thing this guy wants you to buy for $100, run like hell boy, RUN.

Not only that, but for $80-$100 more you can buy a Gibson guitar from their faded series, including the Flying V, SG, and Les Paul.

Its basically this- the fine line between Gibson and First Act. You make the call.

Although if you're interested in this "Telecaster," at least try it out and decide if its something you'd want. THEN you can argue with the salesperson.

I have an American Strat and I just bought a Squier Affinity Telecaster and the Tele is very impressive for a $170 guitar. It`s made well and sounds good and comes in Butterscotch with a maple neck/fretboard. If your looking for an American made Tele thats even better yet. I also have the G Dec 30 amp that was around $370, so for the money you have to spend you should be able to get a good set up.

Thanks for the info. The vox I played around with was the AD50VT. I haven't played the Fender Blues Junior. Is it better sounding as far as Bluesy sounding? I like the sound of SRV and would like to be able to duplicate that. I may end up getting a Strat also. I do love the sound of a telecaster though.
